Fr. Jonathan Galles+ installed as new Rector of Church of the Resurrection

Welcome to our 5th Rector!

The Rev. Jonathan W. Galles+ was installed as the 5th Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection this morning at 10:00 am with the Right Rev. Diane Jardine Bruce, Bishop Provisional of the Diocese of West Missouri, officiating.

A delightful reception and luncheon followed the service in the Undercroft. Thank you to Chad Twitty, who prepared the delicious brisket, and to all those who brought side dishes and desserts!

Thanks be to God for a wonderful celebration of Jonathan's New Ministry!

Stewardship campaign continues

Pledge Cards have been distributed

Last Sunday we kicked-off our annual stewardship campaign with the theme Rooted in Abundance.

Our logo is a tree with many and deep roots with generosity twisting up the trunk to leaf out and spread in a glory of profusion. When we think about generosity, we realize that God has blessed us infinitely with all of the gifts of Creation, our lives, our labor and our loves. When we take stock, we realize that our lives and our responses to God’s generosity are Rooted in Abundance.

We ask that you return your pledge by Sunday, November 19. We will then celebrate on Sunday December 10. Thank you, again, for all the gifts you share.

Join us for Bible Study

Wednesdays at 1:00 pm

Now led by Fr. Jonathan+, please join us every Wednesday for Bible Study in the downstairs classroom beginning at 1:00 pm.

We'll be reading and discussing the book The Bible Tells Me So by Peter Enns.

Trained as an evangelical Bible scholar, Peter Enns loved the Scriptures and shared his devotion, teaching at Westminster Theological Seminary. But the further he studied the Bible, the more he found himself confronted by questions that could neither be answered within the rigid framework of his religious instruction or accepted among the conservative evangelical community. The Bible Tells Me So chronicles Enns’s spiritual odyssey, how he came to see beyond restrictive doctrine and learned to embrace God’s Word as it is actually written.

Resurrection receives Deanery grants

Two grants awarded

Sr. Warden Bill Carle and Treasurer Jim Gilligan attended the final Central Deanery meeting of the year last Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church in Lexington, MO. In addition to discussing the proposed 2024 budget for the Diocese of West Missouri, which will be voted on at the annual Diocesan convention next weekend, the Deanery awarded several grants to churches, including Resurrection.

Resurrection was awarded a grant of $9,100 to partially offset moving expenses for our new rector as well as $1,000 for the purchase of a new security system. Parish leadership is very grateful for the gift of these funds to assist our church.

The grants are separate from and in addition to the Jubilee Ministries grant Resurrection received last week to help support our BackSnack ministry.

Parking lot volunteers needed

Please help!

Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral opens their parking lot for events at the convention center, Music Hall, and other nearby venues. We are fortunate to have been approved to be an organization to provide volunteers to collect the parking fees and direct people to open parking spots. In the last two years, a small number of volunteers from Resurrection has raised nearly $20,000 that has been used for SO MANY projects including: new HVAC, removal of dead trees on our property, work in the choir loft, altar rail kneelers, and a church security system soon to be installed. We need and use these funds! This goes so well with stewardship of time, talent, and treasure.

It is easy and fun to work together, greet happy people, and no preparation or training is needed! You can sign up with a friend (not required to be a member of Resurrection!) Please contact Elaine Gilligan at (816) 547-9091 or e-mail evgilligan@comcast.net to be included on future invitations to sign up to volunteer.

Thanks also to our volunteers last weekend (Bill Carle, Pat Carle and Jayden Morris) who raised approximately $650!
