Next Sunday is Advent 1, which on the Christian Calendar begins a new year.

So that means this Sunday a kind of New Year's Eve.

Seems right to have a worship celebration. Susan will reflect on being delivered, as we ask weekly in the Lord's Prayer. William Austin will sing a song that asks some things will never change? and answers aw, don't you believe it. And we'll all share in communion, hymns and prayers.

Spotlight on Saint Andrew’s Community: The Cold and The Dark

The days are growing colder and darker, and we have entered the season of high heat and power bills for Saint Andrew's.

As you can imagine, keeping our church warm and bright is a huge financial effort; we estimate the cost of these months at $25,560. And so we are reaching out to our community for help.

The goal of our The Cold and The Dark Campaign is to raise $25,000 to see us through these most challenging months of the year.

Beyond services and our sanctuary, Saint Andrew's is home to many community groups and activities, some of which are featured in this campaign video. Your support of The Cold and The Dark Campaign will help us continue our work, and keep rental prices low for our partner groups and organizations.

Saint Andrew's Supports Social Justice: 16 Days of Activism

From November 25 to December 10, 2025, mark the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence. This year's theme is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”. 

Violence against women and girls affects one in three women. It is a global human rights emergency that must stop. As the world marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – one of the most progressive international agreements on women’s rights to date – the UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE 2025 campaign focuses on one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse: digital violence against women and girls. This year’s campaign is also a reminder that digital safety is central to gender equality.

Online and digital spaces should empower women and girls. Yet every day, for millions of women and girls the digital world has become a minefield of harassment, abuse, and control.

Warm Clothes Needed!

Many guests of our Sunday Suppers are in need of warm winter clothes.

Our Social Justice Committee will provide boxes in the entrance to the church the next two Sundays (November 23 and November 30) to receive donations of clean, used winter jackets.

Please note that jackets should be in good condition with working zippers.

You can also donate socks, and water resistant, winter gloves (X-LARGE men’s)

Warmth is a theme this November. You can understand why.

UCW Soup Challenge

Saint Andrew’s UCW invites you to participate in a Soup Challenge to support the School Breakfast Program at Joseph Howe Elementary School.  

Building on the success of this initiative over the past five years, they are again inviting you to participate in this very worthwhile cause from the comfort of your home by tossing a loonie, a toonie or more into a jar every time you have a bowl of soup in the month of November. 

Don’t like soup? No problem, substitute your favourite meal or treat.  

Last year the UCW donated $3,148 to this program, thanks to your participation and generosity. So, let’s do it again and help give those hungry kids a really great start to their day by donating to the School Breakfast Program.

The challenge to you - eat and donate for the month of November - and together we can make a difference right in our own community!

Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra: True North

Under the direction of Mark Hopkins – Professor of Music at Acadia University and in-demand guest conductor – the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra kicks off a brand-new season with True North! Hear music from classical heavyweights like Beethoven and Sibelius, plus symphonic gems from Gabrieli, Björk, and Whitacre. Finally, experience the heart wrenching, JUNO Award-winning musical tribute to 15-year-old Amanda Todd by the late Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock.

Halifax Harmonizers present Fall Harmonies

Join us for a wonderful afternoon of music!

The Halifax Harmonizers are men in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area who sing together in four part harmony. They perform a capella (without musical instruments) and have a wide-ranging repertoire including show tunes, gospel, seasonal favourites and classic and contemporary pop hits.

Synergy is a barbershop chorus based in Halifax. The members are Sue Kember (Bari), Jennifer Cleveland (Lead), Adèle Merritt (Bass), and Corinna Garriock (Tenor). In June of 2025 they were crowned Harmony, Inc. Area 1 Quartet Champions.

Chelsi Madonna is an accomplished coloratura soprano. She has a Master of Music in Performance (Opera) and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. She owns and operates the Chelsi Madonna School of Music in Halifax.

Stagecoach Performing Arts is delighted to present a selection of songs performed by talented students from a variety of local schools--Bedford, Halifax, Dartmouth and Truro. Stagecoach inspires confidence, creativity, and a love of performing arts through weekly classes through singing, dancing, and acting for children age 4–18.
