Happy Labor Day

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

May we take your picture?

We want you in our directory

Since it has been awhile since we produced a pictorial directory, Lindsay Tarasovic and Gary Zumwalt have volunteered to compile a photo display of our parishioners to be placed in the undercroft.

Please see Gary to have your picture taken or he may catch you when you least expect it! If you have a photo you prefer to be used instead of a new shot, please provide a copy to either Lindsay or Gary as soon as possible.

Scammers are back

Think before your click

Be on the lookout for phishing and scam messages sent to you posing as Bishop Amy, Father Jonathan, or another member of our parish. All three have occurred in recent weeks.

With current technology, e-mail phishing and spoofing is very common. "Spoofed" e-mails are e-mails that appear to be from someone you know but really are not, despite the name on the e-mail.

Here are some tips to identify e-mail and texting scams and stay safe:

Review the Content

Does the message use urgent or threatening language? Does it ask you to only e-mail and to not call? Are there grammar and spelling mistakes? Does it ask you to send money or gift cards? Does it ask for you to verify your bank account information? All of these are signs of a scam.

Check the E-mail Address

Many times, the e-mail address will be the biggest red flag in determining a phishing scam. You might receive e-mails that say from "Father Jonathan" or "Resurrection Office," but check the e-mail address from where it was sent. Spoofed e-mails often look like they’re from someone you know, but the address may have extra letters, numbers, or slight misspellings, or are often just a random gmail address. For example, Jonathan may be spelled Jonathon.

Don't Click Suspicious Links

Clicking on any links, especially ones that ask for payment or information, is always a risk. When in doubt, close the e-mail and go to the website directly or contact the person or organization from whom you received the e-mail. You can also hover your mouse over any link before clicking it to see if the web destination matches what you expect.

Don't Download Unknown Attachments

If you receive any documents or files you weren't expecting, DO NOT open or download them. It is possible a "Trojan Horse" virus will be downloaded to your device as soon as you click it. Verify with the sender for confirmation that the files are safe.

Episcopal Church Terminology

High Church, Low Church or somewhere in-between?

If you grew-up attending the Episcopal Church you have no doubt heard the terms "High Church" and "Low Church". What do they mean?.

High Church is a church emphasizing theological or liturgical formality and rituals. The church may have several vested assistants and many fine utensils used in the service. The celebrant will often sing or chant the service rather than read or speak it. Incense is often used as well as bell ringing/altar bells. Such churches sometimes appear to be more “catholic”.

Low Church is a church that is less formal and more casual. The priest does not chant or sing the service. The wearing of vestments may be limited. Although not as common today, it often referred to a church that celebrated the Eucharist only once or twice each month and conducted Morning Prayer on the other Sundays. Such churches sometimes appear to be more “protestant”.
