Candlemas: bring "candles" to be blessed
This Sunday is our annual meeting, it is also the final end of the Christmas and Epiphany season known as the Feast of the Presentation, or Candlemas.
This event is traditionally 40 days after Christmas, celebrating Jesus the Light of the World being publicly presented at the temple.
The theme is light, and for around 1600 years Christians have used this time to bless candles and other sources of light. The point is to remind us of Christ as we work by their light.
If you want to bring candles to be blessed, I will bless them. However, for many today, smartphones have become the candles of our current age. Because of this, if you would like your phone blessed, bring it! Let us seek to sanctify the parts of our life whether they come from medieval times or the space age, we bring all we are and all we do before God."
