Thomas Frierson Obituary
CW4 (Ret.) Thomas Edward Frierson, and a previous long-time FUMC Killeen member passed away on December 18, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 60. He was born on November 30, 1963, in Houston, Texas to Charles E. and the late Rebecca A. Frierson (nee Stringer).
Tom, loving, jovial, devoted husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife, Jennifer; daughters, Jill, Paige, and Brooke; grandson, Jackson; his father, Charles E. Frierson, brother Michael Frierson, uncle, Larry Stringer, and numerous cousins.
When Tom was in high school, he obtained his pilot's license and began a lifelong career in aviation. Upon graduation from Spring Westfield High School in 1982, he entered Texas A&M University, became a member of the Corp of Cadets, AFROTC Squadron 4, class of 1986, and graduated with a commission to the United States Air Force in 1987. His desire to become an aviator and serve his country led to declining his commission and applying to warrant officer candidate school for the United States Army. He was accepted and graduated from WOC school in 1990, and began an illustrious career as an attack helicopter pilot (AH-1 Cobra & AH-64 A/D Apache) serving in South Korea; Fort Hood, Texas; Hanau, Germany; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina; with tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. During his service to his country, he was awarded the NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, Bronze Star with Valor, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and numerous others. Upon retirement from the military in 2011, Tom embarked on a career that allowed his skills as an aviation safety officer to be utilized in many ways.
Tom enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing, telling stories, and making jokes. His children were his main source of joy, and he was very proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed traveling the world with his family and attending a Texas A&M football game when he could. He will be missed by many friends and family.
Visitation took place on Monday, January 8 at Heritage Funeral Home in Harker Heights, TX. Burial was a graveside service at Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen, TX on Tuesday, January 9. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery or your local VFW in Tom's honor.
