Sunday Worship

"Airplane Mode: Practicing Spiritual Disciplines"
We live in a noisy world. The 24-hour news cycle is relentless. Even when alone, we’re bombarded with texts, emails, and social media messages. The Lord’s invitation to seek solitude and silence isn’t only about finding a quiet place, it’s also about discovering the gift of removing ourselves from the cacophony of messages to find our rest in God. Drawing from the life of Jesus and the Apostle Paul, this series extends that invitation at four critical life junctures: a big decision, a big loss, a big job, and a big change. At each point, a time of silence, solitude, and prayer in God’s presence can heal us of the past and prepare us for our futures.

Week 2 – January 16: A Big Loss
Matthew 14:1-13
After hearing of his cousin John’s death, Jesus seeks solitude before returning to his ministry. This week we’ll see how solitude makes space for grief – and ultimately for hope. A time apart can help us heal after experiencing a loss.

In case you missed last week's worship, watch here.
“On Mission Together: An Education
Series on Serving Our Community”
Sundays through January 30
10:30 a.m.

I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.   – Matthew 25:35-36

In the new year, you’re invited to learn about how our faith can be applied to helping those in need around us by hearing directly from several First Pres mission partners. One of the steps in our church’s discipleship path is to “serve in a ministry or with a mission partner.” Discover how serving others deepens your life with Christ and uplifts our community.

January 16 – Peter Lawson, Ministry Program Director, Mission USA: The Bridge

Annual Meeting
Annual Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 30, following 10:30 worship

Additional Deacon Candidates
At this time, we are still seeking additional candidates to fill the last three open Deacon positions. Deacons represent an essential part of our ministry through congregational care and outreach, providing hospitality and welcome to members and visitors, and supporting critical missions of the church. The positions are for a three-year term and each deacon has a parish unit of families to serve. Like all elected officers, Deacons need to be on the Active Roll of the church and contributing to the life of the church either through a committed pledge or a regular cadence of financial support. This is an ordained leadership position within the Presbyterian Church (USA). If you are willing to be considered as a candidate, please reach out to Emily Herndon and if you have questions about the role of a Deacon, please contact Mary Kinsey or Beth Stremel. Please consider serving as a Deacon if you meet the criteria.

Officer Nominations in Advance of the Annual Meeting
The Congregation Nominating Committee has been diligently and prayerfully building a slate of recommended candidates for your consideration to elect Elders, Deacons, and At-Large Nominating Committee Representatives. This election will take place as part of the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Congregation to be held on Sunday, January 30 immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. This is an important part of the life of our church. Due to logistical constraints with a hybrid annual meeting, we are asking that any "nominations from the floor" be submitted in advance of the meeting. We will not be accepting nominations from the floor at the meeting, therefore all additional nominations need to be received by Wednesday, January 26 by submitting the online Nomination Form. This will allow the committee time to validate any potential candidates.

The meeting will be conducted immediately following livestream worship.

Voting will be available during the meeting, both in-person and by using an online form.
