Annual Meeting

Annual Congregational Meeting
Sunday, January 30
In Person and Livestream
Following 10:30 worship

Each year in January, we gather for the Annual Meeting of the congregation. Plan to join your church family in person or virtually as we reflect on what God has done through the ministries of First Pres in the past year.

An electronic version of the Business Packet is available HERE, and the electronic 2021 Annual Report is available HERE. Printed copies will be available on Sunday and subsequently in the church office.

HOW TO VOTE
Voting is open now and during the meeting using this ONLINE FORM. You must be an active church member to vote and will need to include an email address and your name in the online ballot. Paper ballots will be available on Sunday for those without online access.

Open Position: Office Manager
First Pres is hiring a part-time Office Manager to lead and oversee the administrative functions of the church. Responsibilities include coordinating front desk volunteers and assisting staff with various duties, managing the church database, and scheduling facility usage. Successful candidates will be familiar with the Presbyterian tradition, interact with church members and friends in a caring, professional manner, and have strong organizational skills. We welcome someone who can work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, as well as being proficient in computer technology and applications. To inquire or apply, call or email the church office.

Sunday Worship

"Airplane Mode: Practicing Spiritual Disciplines"

We live in a noisy world. The 24-hour news cycle is relentless. Even when alone, we’re bombarded with texts, emails, and social media messages. The Lord’s invitation to seek solitude and silence isn’t only about finding a quiet place, it’s also about discovering the gift of removing ourselves from the cacophony of messages to find our rest in God. Drawing from the life of Jesus and the Apostle Paul, this series extends that invitation at four critical life junctures: a big decision, a big loss, a big job, and a big change. At each point, a time of silence, solitude, and prayer in God’s presence can heal us of the past and prepare us for our futures.

January 30: A Big Change
Galatians 1:11-17
The Apostle Paul, upon receiving his call to ministry, travels to Arabia to affirm his new identity in Christ. We’ll consider how setting aside a time and place apart before embarking upon any life change has the power to renew and prepare us for whatever God has in store.

“On Mission Together: An Education
Series on Serving Our Community”
Sundays through January 30
10:30 a.m.

I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you gave me clothes to wear. I was sick and you took care of me. I was in prison and you visited me.
– Matthew 25:35-36

In the new year, you’re invited to learn about how our faith can be applied to helping those in need around us by hearing directly from several First Pres mission partners. One of the steps in our church’s discipleship path is to “serve in a ministry or with a mission partner.” Discover how serving others deepens your life with Christ and uplifts our community.

January 30 – Hester Bury, Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving, Northern Illinois Food Bank

Scout Sunday is February 6!
Join us in celebrating our home Boy Scout Troop 23 on Scout Sunday, February 6

The boys will be assisting with worship and of course serving donuts from John's Donuts after both services. A drive up donut option will be available outside the Rotunda from 11:30-12:00 for those watching online. In support of Scouts annual food drive "Scouting for Food," Troop 23 will be collecting non-perishable food donations. It’s another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are here, doing good turns. A collection box will be in the Rotunda until February 14. Thank you for your continued support of Troop 23!
