Easter Flower Donations

Easter is almost here and we'd love to have flowers in the sanctuary when we celebrate Easter Sunday. There are several ways to contribute:

  1. Use a donation envelope (on the seats in the Sanctuary and in the All Saints' Chapel). These need to be in the office by Monday, March 25.
  2. Send an email to the office with the amount you wish to contribute and any dedication you wish to include office@stdavidsparish.org.
  3. Call the office with the same information. The emails and calls need to be in by Monday, March 25 as well to be included in the Easter bulletin. You may send your checks to the office or drop in the collection plate, noting these are for Easter Flowers.

Thank you all for making our church Easter beautiful!

Lenten Dinners

What a gift it was to gather on Sunday evenings during Lent for dinner, scripture reflection, and discussion. Thank you to our dinner hosts: Cathy and Randy Schwichtenberg, Nan and Guy Drake, Ann and Chris Carda, and Allison and Stephen Ferro. And thank you to each of you who attended. It is good to break bread together.

Vestry Update

Your vestry met the evening of March 18. We began by sharing a communal meal and fellowship. The vision selected from the jar for discussion was Vision #7 – “We continually discern our unique identity and gifts, empowering both lay people and clergy to seek new opportunities and intentionally try fresh ways to live the Good News within ourselves, our congregation, our neighborhood, and our communities.”

Vida Edmond, Endowment Committee Chair, presented an update on the endowment, including a review of the 2023 year-end balance. From an initial $20,000 gift when the endowment began in 2013, it has grown to more than $450,000 thanks to the generosity of St. David’s past and present. We discussed the committee’s plans to begin making funds available to the Vestry this fall when we prepare our 2025 financial plan.

Our discernment topic was twofold. First, we discussed vestry shepherding assignments. St. David’s vestry shepherds serve as important liaisons between important ministry areas of St. David’s and the vestry. The assignments are: Building & Grounds – Carol Johnson, Communication – Julia Handley, Faithful Innovation – Nan Drake, Fellowship/Community – Ann Robinson, Justice/Outreach – Andy Harvala, Technology – Kristina Stokes. Second, we toured the ICA building. The lease with ICA expires on February 28, 2026, and ICA is still discerning whether they want to remain in the space.

We approved minutes and financials, as well as appointments to two standing committees of the church – Buildings and Grounds - Randy Schwichtenberg, Chris Carda, Randy Lindquist, Dan Meyer, David Pearson and Finance - Steve Johnson, Ann Carda, Cliff Crockford, David Pearson. We also reappointed three people to the Endowment Committee – Vida Edmond and Bill Jacobs for a three-year term and Robby Stokes for a one-year term. Thanks to all for your dedicated service to St. David’s!

We reviewed an inventory of St. David’s Buildings and Grounds as the first step in working towards developing a comprehensive campus plan.

With love, excitement, and joy for all that the Holy Spirit is doing at St. David’s,

-David Niles

Agrarian Faith Formation

ECMN Priority: Faithful Innovation

The Rev. Kerri Meyer spoke about her transformation at the Good Courage Farm. The Farm is described as “a place where friends of God and God's good Earth gather in worship, fellowship, community building and labor.” https://www.goodcourage.farm/

Last year we had a small group of vineyard stewards from St David’s spend a few Saturdays during the growing season working in the Vineyard. As we worked among the vines, we had the opportunity to get to know each other, learn about regenerative farming, agrarian ministry, as well as to meet other ECMN Episcopalian congregation stewards. If you love to nurture the growth of food, spirit, and friendships, or just like to get your hands and boots dirty, then consider joining one of the Saturday stewardships. Orchard Stewarding is planned for the First Saturday of the month, and the Vineyard the second Saturday of the month. If you are interested, please email Bonnie Boyd at Bonnieboyd0803@gmail.com, text 952-220-6982, or sign-up in the Undercroft while you're having coffee.

It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through MN FoodShare Month. Thank you to everyone who has donated, spread the word or supported ICA in any shape or form. ICA cannot continue to do what it does for our neighbors in need without YOU.

As you may recall, ICA’s 2024 March FoodShare Month’s goals are: 200,000 pounds of food & $300,000 in donated funds.

Earlier this week, ICA shared the current progress toward reaching this year’s campaign goals. So far, ICA has raised $96,000 & 53,000 pounds of food. That translates to about 1/3 of the way toward the funds goal & 1/4 of the way to the food goal.

The needs of the community continue to rise with over a 1000 families seeking help each month. Food insecurity is on the rise in Minnesota. An astonishing 1 in 6 neighbors in Minnesota are food insecure. Your neighbor down the street may be experiencing food insecurity.

If you have not yet made a gift, please consider supporting our neighbors in need with a financial donation or food items. They need your help.

You can bring your gifts of food to church any March Sunday or drop them off in the ICA baskets located at the church entrances. You can refer to the list of Current Needs below or you are welcome to bring anything you would like to share.

If you prefer to make a financial donation, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to the ICA website: www.icafoodshelf.org/donate.

Be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s.

However you choose to support ICA, please know it will truly make a difference to many. Thank you ever so much.

St David’s Book Club News

by Cathy Schwichtenberg

The St. David’s Book Club will be discussing The Library Book by Susan Orlean on Tuesday, April 2 from 6:30 pm – 7:55 pm.

Meeting Zoom Link: April 2 Meeting

"On the morning of April 29, 1986, a disastrous fire broke out in the Los Angeles Public Library. By the time it was extinguished, the fire had destroyed or damaged more than a million books. Over thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone intentionally set fire to the library--and, if so, who? Weaving her lifelong love of books and reading into a thrilling investigation of the fire, award-winning new Yorker reporter Susan Orlean--hailed as a "national treasure" by the Washington Post--delivers a mesmerizing and uniquely compelling book that manages to tell the broader story of libraries and librarians in a way that has never been done before, revealing how these beloved institutions provide much more than just books--and why they remain an essential part of the heart, mind, and soul of our country."--quote from Hennepin County Library book review

We have an interesting line-up of selections this year and invite all St. David’s parishioners to participate. We usually meet via Zoom on the first Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 – 7:55. Here is this year’s schedule – please join us!

The Library Book | Susan Orlean | 4/2/24 | Judy Roggow

The Dovekeepers | Alice Hoffman | 6/4/24 | Scott Clark

Tom Lake | Ann Patchett | 8/6/24 | TBD

Horse | Geraldine Brooks | 10/1/24 | TBD

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store | James McBride | 12/3/24 | TBD

Buildings and Grounds Update

The Buildings and Grounds Commission is made up of five parishioners who are responsible for maintenance, repairs, cleanup, and service of the church campus. We can’t do this without your help. We’re looking for volunteers to serve on a Buildings and Grounds Support Team. The Support Team doesn’t come with the commitment of regular meetings and schedules and budgets. It is simply a group of folks who are open to help when a need arises. It is a low-pressure way to serve. Items that you may be called to do:

  • Event setup / tear down
  • Cleanup days
  • Special projects
  • Painting
  • Routine repairs

If you feel compelled to serve, please contact Randy Schwichtenberg or any member on the Buildings and Grounds Commission.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve!
