Youth Ministry
We will meet on Wednesday, November 29th, 6:30-8:30pm at St. David's for LIFT Friendsgiving Potluck!
Bring your favorite food to share. We will meet in the Jones Room of the ICA building, talk about gratitude, and learn about Skywoman Falling, a sacred Iroquois creation story.
RSVP by emailing Anna abrock@stdavidsparish.org on if you plan to attend and if you can bring a dish to share. (If you don’t RSVP, you can still come, and you don’t have to bring anything. It’s just for planning purposes.)

Then, save the date for December 2nd, as we will have nursery staff training at the church from 9:00-noon.
See the Job Description Here and the Application Here. If you prefer a printed copy, grab one outside the Children and Youth Ministry office.

Our wonderful cooks at St. David's prepared a delicious light supper before the service for the choir members and pivoted to a beautiful table of desserts and beverages after the service.

Posada Announcement 2023
Advent begins soon, which means it is soon time for the St. David’s Posada. In Spanish-speaking regions, “la posada” refers to an inn or a hotel. In many Hispanic traditions, “las posadas” is a term for a type of re-enactment of Mary and Joseph's search for lodging in Bethlehem and is performed just before Christmas.
St. David’s honors the Posada tradition during Advent by inviting households to sign up to host a set of felted wool figures of Mary and Joseph for a few nights before sending them on to another St. David’s household. Those who participate as innkeepers have the opportunity to provide our “guests” with warm hospitality and safe lodging as they travel from home to home during Advent.
Each household interested in being an innkeeper should sign up via email. A schedule of overnights for Mary and Joseph will be provided to the innkeepers who have signed up.
Our Mary and Joseph will make their first overnight at a St. David’s home on the first Sunday of Advent (Dec. 3). Then they travel to different homes in the St. David’s community, according to the schedule, and stay for about two nights. Each innkeeper is responsible for contacting the next host on the schedule, arranging to drop-off Mary and Joseph at a time and place that is mutually convenient, as well as providing a small holiday treat for the receiving innkeepers to enjoy. On Sunday, Dec. 24, the last innkeeper on the schedule brings Mary and Joseph to St. David’s for the Christmas Eve Service, marking the end of their long journey.
If you are interested in hosting Mary and Joseph during Advent, contact Patti Jurkovich at patti.jurkovich@gmail.com to sign up.

St David’s Book Club News
by Cathy Schwichtenberg

The heart of the Native American experience: In this 1996 Minnesota Book Award winner, Kent Nerburn draws the reader deep into the world of an Indian elder known only as Dan. It's a world of Indian towns, white roadside cafes, and abandoned roads that swirl with the memories of the Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull.
Readers meet vivid characters like Jumbo, a 400-pound mechanic, and Annie, an 80-year-old Lakota woman living in a log cabin. Threading through the book is the story of two men struggling to find a common voice. Neither Wolf nor Dog takes readers to the heart of the Native American experience. As the story unfolds, Dan speaks eloquently on the difference between land and property, the power of silence, and the selling of sacred ceremonies. ~Hclib.org

Hope Springs Christmas Giving | |

A HO, HO, HOPE SPRINGS HOLIDAY
It is that time of year again to share some holiday spirit with our friends at Hope Springs at Minnetonka Assisted Living Facility. This year, there will be a new twist to our traditional Giving Tree at the request of Hope Springs’ administration. Instead of that annual shopping experience for various gifts from resident’s eclectic wish lists, they now ask for gift cards: all from the same place and all for the same amount. There are many reasons as to why they have made this difficult decision, but the bottom line is that it is best for the residents. I know I was very disappointed, as I love shopping/hunting for just the perfect gift……but I told myself if I am to participate in the true spirit of giving, it is not about what I want but what is best for and wanted by the receivers.
We will still have a list of resident’s names and some fun Christmas cards at the ready for your personal notes of Christmas cheer. A table will be in the narthex after Sunday services, at which you may offer your generous financial gift of $40 ( cash or checks most appreciated), choose a recipient, pick a card you fancy, sign that card, write a short note, then finally address the envelope…..but no licking it closed allowed! Once we have received enough donations, we will purchase the gift cards, insert them into your cards, and then wrap them all up in one big festive Christmas box to be delivered when we sing Christmas carols at Hope Springs on Sunday December 17th.
Ho, Ho, Hope you stop by the Hope Spring’s Christmas table in the Narthex...…. starting Sunday Nov 26th after the 9:30 service, and after both services on Sunday, December 3rd.

ICA Day at Maynard’s next Monday
Are you planning to have lunch or dinner at Maynard’s in Excelsior next Monday, November 27. Hope so. This local restaurant will donate 100% of its proceeds that day to ICA. Call 952-470-1800 to make a reservation. What an easy, enjoyable way to show support for ICA.
Plan Ahead for ICA Sunday on December 3
It’s the time of year when it seems everyone is busier than usual. With that in mind, the theme for the upcoming ICA Sunday on 12/3 is Quick Meals! What ICA needs following this theme is:
- Ready to eat soups
- Whole grain noodles
- Canned vegetables & fruits
- Pasta sauce
- Instant potatoes
- Canned meats
In addition, ICA always needs dog & cat food, brown paper bags and egg cartons.
If you will not be in church December 3, you can always drop off your donations at your convenience in the ICA baskets at the church entrances. Many thanks.
