Agrarian Faith Formation

ECMN Priority: Faithful Innovation

The Rev. Kerri Meyer spoke about her transformation at the Good Courage Farm. The Farm is described as “a place where friends of God and God's good Earth gather in worship, fellowship, community building and labor.” https://www.goodcourage.farm/

Last year we had a small group of vineyard stewards from St David’s spend a few Saturdays during the growing season working in the Vineyard. As we worked among the vines, we had the opportunity to get to know each other, learn about regenerative farming, agrarian ministry, as well as to meet other ECMN Episcopalian congregation stewards. If you love to nurture the growth of food, spirit, and friendships, or just like to get your hands and boots dirty, then consider joining one of the Saturday stewardships. Orchard Stewarding is planned for the First Saturday of the month, and the Vineyard the second Saturday of the month. If you are interested, please email Bonnie Boyd at Bonnieboyd0803@gmail.com, text 952-220-6982, or sign-up in the Undercroft while you're having coffee.

March Is Minnesota Foodshare Month

The 43rd annual Minnesota GoodShare Month is here! The Minnesota FoodShare Program was started by the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches.

Hunger is growing in Minnesota. In 2023 Minnesota food shelves documented a record 7.5 million visits. That number broke the 2022 records by more than 2 million visits - more than a 30% increase in just one year! Approximately 1 in 6 neighbors in Minnesota experience food insecurity. Around 1 in 11 children do not have regular access to the nutrition needed to thrive. These are shocking statistics!

ICA is seeing record numbers of families visiting the food shelf. With over 1000 families visiting each month, the food stock is in constant need of being replenished. Traditionally spring is the time when food and financial support declines. During Minnesota FoodShare month, you can help make a difference by helping ICA collect 200,000 pounds of food and $300,000 this March.

You can bring your gifts of food to church any March Sunday or drop them off at your convenience in one of the ICA baskets at the church entrances. If you wish to make a financial gift, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to the ICA website: icafoodshelf.org/donate. Be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s. Whatever way you choose to support ICA, please know it will make a difference to many.

St David’s Book Club News

by Cathy Schwichtenberg

The St. David’s Book Club will be discussing The Library Book by Susan Orlean on Tuesday, April 2 from 6:30 pm – 7:55 pm.

Meeting Zoom Link: April 2 Meeting

"On the morning of April 29, 1986, a disastrous fire broke out in the Los Angeles Public Library. By the time it was extinguished, the fire had destroyed or damaged more than a million books. Over thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone intentionally set fire to the library--and, if so, who? Weaving her lifelong love of books and reading into a thrilling investigation of the fire, award-winning new Yorker reporter Susan Orlean--hailed as a "national treasure" by the Washington Post--delivers a mesmerizing and uniquely compelling book that manages to tell the broader story of libraries and librarians in a way that has never been done before, revealing how these beloved institutions provide much more than just books--and why they remain an essential part of the heart, mind, and soul of our country."--quote from Hennepin County Library book review

We have an interesting line-up of selections this year and invite all St. David’s parishioners to participate. We usually meet via Zoom on the first Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 – 7:55. Here is this year’s schedule – please join us!

The Library Book | Susan Orlean | 4/2/24 | Judy Roggow

The Dovekeepers | Alice Hoffman | 6/4/24 | Scott Clark

Tom Lake | Ann Patchett | 8/6/24 | TBD

Horse | Geraldine Brooks | 10/1/24 | TBD

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store | James McBride | 12/3/24 | TBD

Buildings and Grounds Update

The Buildings and Grounds Commission is made up of five parishioners who are responsible for maintenance, repairs, cleanup, and service of the church campus. We can’t do this without your help. We’re looking for volunteers to serve on a Buildings and Grounds Support Team. The Support Team doesn’t come with the commitment of regular meetings and schedules and budgets. It is simply a group of folks who are open to help when a need arises. It is a low-pressure way to serve. Items that you may be called to do:

  • Event setup / tear down
  • Cleanup days
  • Special projects
  • Painting
  • Routine repairs

If you feel compelled to serve, please contact Randy Schwichtenberg or any member on the Buildings and Grounds Commission.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve!
