Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
February 13 @ 6:00 pm
The Cornerstone Endowment Committee of St. David’s invites everyone to a pancake dinner on Shrove Tuesday, February 13 at 6:00 pm. Food will be available until 7:00 pm. Please join us as we celebrate the evening before Lent begins! A goodwill offering is requested.
Fun Trivia:
- The idea of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is over 1,000 years old. It was a way of using up rich foods before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
- Before baking soda was invented cooks often used fresh snow as an ingredient as it helped the pancakes turn out light and fluffy.

A Trunkful of Supplies for Bimosedaa | |
Helping our Neighbors Exiting Encampment
St. David’s Justice Collaborative is partnering with Beacon Interfaith Housing to provide needed items for our Native neighbors exiting homelessness. Beacon's newest supportive housing called Bimosedaa in Downtown Minneapolis has opened. These 48 housing units were built in response to a previous encampment of mostly Native neighbors.
Encampments are one expression of a deeper trend of housing insecurity and homelessness.
We will collect the following new personal care items and other needed supplies to help our neighbors settle into their safe and stable housing:
The greatest need is for pillows, comforters, and dishes!
Also needed: Bath and hand towels, wash cloths, bath mats, toiletries of shampoo and conditioner, menstrual care products, body wash, tooth brushes, floss and deodorant.
Also needed are twin extra long sheets and comforters, kitchen items (1 pot, plates and cups, silverware, utensils, can opener)
The Justice Collaborative will be coordinating collecting the items here at St. David’s and then delivering them to New Branches in Minneapolis who will distribute them to the families. Bring your items to church and place in the laundry baskets in the entry starting this Sunday. We will collect items until February 18. If you have any questions please contact Huldah Niles huldah.violin@gmail.com.

2024 Pledge Reminder for Automated Givers
With a new pledge year upon us, now is a good time to check up on your automated payments. If you increased your pledge for 2024, please be sure to increase your automated payments as well so that you will stay on track. If you make your payments via ACH withdrawal through the church, those updates have been made. If you have set up automated payments in REALM and you did not put in an end date, you will need to update those payments for any pledge increases, or add a new pledge if your previous pledge payments have expired. This would also apply to any automated payments you have set up through your bank. Please reach out to Shea Brendalen at sbrendalen@stdavidsparish.org if you have any questions. Thank you for your faithful giving.

Did any of you happen to catch the Hats & Mittens story recently broadcast on WCCO-TV? The reporter shared the touching story of a woman living in Hawaii who has knit more than 5000 hats over the last several years for Hats & Mittens. The founder of this special non-profit organization spoke about the outreach of Hats & Mittens to thousands of young children & youth in the metro area. You may watch the story here!
St. David’s has been most generous in donating items to keep children warm this winter. We will continue collecting new and gently used hats, mittens and scarves for infants to young adults for about a month.
You can drop off items you would like to donate in the Hats & Mittens boxes located at the two south church entrances. Thanks so much.

ICA Sunday at St. David’s THIS SUNDAY
Perhaps you have seen/read the Star Tribune articles on the problem of growing food insecurity in Minnesota and how local food shelves are working hard to meet the ever-increasing need for food in their communities.
ICA Sunday is this Sunday, February 4.
The focus for our February collection is Keep it Clean.
What ICA needs:
* dish soap
* laundry soap
* shampoo
* toothpaste
* deodorant
The following items are currently running low at the Food Shelf:
* ready-to-eat canned food
* Bush’s baked beans
* juice
* cereal
* spices (ex. salt, pepper, cinnamon, cumin)
* wet and dry pet food
The above items are suggestions. Anything you would like to donate is always appreciated. Bring your items to church this Sunday or drop them off at your convenience in one of the ICA baskets at the church entrances. While food donations help bring in immediate supplies, a financial donation to ICA helps to ensure the shelves can be well stocked. A check made out to the iCA can be dropped in the Sunday collection plate. You can also go online at www.icafoodshelf.org, choose Donate from the menu & follow the prompts. Thank you for supporting ICA.
