Rogation Day at St. David's—Beating the Bounds
Monday @ Noon - we'll meet in the Narthex
Mark your calendars and plan to join us for a special Rogation Day service at St. David's on Monday, May 6 at noon. Rogation is an ancient church practice of seeking blessing for a community and its sustenance (the word "Rogation" comes from the Latin Rogare, meaning "to ask"). Rogation Days are the 3 days preceding Ascension Day and are intended for asking God's blessing on agriculture and industry.
Since medieval days there has been a tradition of "beating the bounds" – walking together in procession around the boundary of property, praying for God's blessing upon crops, the well-being of the land, and sharing hope in God's ability to nourish and sustain life. We will keep with this tradition with a procession on the land on which our congregation resides.
Please join us, as you are able! Please be in touch with the Rev. Katherine Lewis klewis@stdavidsparish.org or Roger Stratton, rstratton@stdavidsparish.org if you have questions.

Our Old Oak Tree
The wood from our old oak has been partially milled and is drying for future use! Thanks in a big way to Phil Scia who, with the help of Chris Carda, moved, planed, and stored the logs. Some unique end pieces are now available for anyone to take. This is just a taste of what's to come once the moisture levels are lower in the larger beams.
If you are feeling creative or curious, take a look at the pieces available in our Undercroft (behind the front wall dividers) and take what you like!

SAVE THE DATE
July 20 -21
Hopkins Raspberry Festival
Mark your calendars now, so you too can take part in a most fun, meaningful, and fantastic summer weekend right here in our local community!
St David’s is now registered to take part in the 2024 Hopkins Raspberry Festival! You have the opportunity to participate in an old-fashioned Grande Day Parade complete with floats and marching bands traveling down Mainstreet in Hopkins on July 21.
If you prefer, you can also participate by assisting in the “St David’s Booth” where we will set up a table offering up rest, refreshment, and renewal at the Mainstreet Marketplace Festival on July 20.
These two opportunities offer St. David’s a chance to step out of our boat and venture into the waters to play, faithfully living into both our mission and vision statements by actively engaging with our community.
Keep your eye out for more information and ways you can get involved (coming your way soon!) All ages are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Regards,
Diane Curley, Senior Warden

Agrarian Faith Formation
ECMN Priority: Faithful Innovation
The Rev. Kerri Meyer spoke about her transformation at the Good Courage Farm. The Farm is described as “a place where friends of God and God's good Earth gather in worship, fellowship, community building and labor.” https://www.goodcourage.farm/
Last year we had a small group of vineyard stewards from St. David’s spend a few Saturdays during the growing season working in the Vineyard. As we worked among the vines, we had the opportunity to get to know each other, learn about regenerative farming, agrarian ministry, as well as to meet other ECMN Episcopalian congregation stewards. If you love to nurture the growth of food, spirit, and friendships, or just like to get your hands and boots dirty, then consider joining one of the Saturday stewardships. Orchard Stewarding is planned for the First Saturday of the month, and the Vineyard the second Saturday of the month. If you are interested, please email Bonnie Boyd at Bonnieboyd0803@gmail.com, text 952-220-6982, or sign-up in the Undercroft while you're having coffee.

Rising Food Prices
At the April ICA Congregational meeting, Scott Searl from ICA spoke about rising food prices and how they are impacting ICA. Here are a few key points from his presentation:
- According to a food industry expert writing for the February issue of Forbes Magazine “Grocery prices are 30% higher than four years ago.”
- Factors contributing to high food prices:
- pandemic supply chain issues
- war in Ukraine (grain & oil)
- avian flu
- climate change
- transportation costs
- global food company profits
3. The average shopper is spending significantly more money & bringing home
significantly less food.
4. Rising food costs are especially difficult for people with fewer resources, because
they spend a larger percentage of their income on food.
What does this mean for ICA? There is a double impact. ICA continues to see high levels of need and ICA’s food prices continue to grow (up 25%). For example, in February cucumbers went up from $30 to $51 per case and green peppers went up from $30 to $44 per case.
Of the food available at the food shelf, 1/3 is donated, 1/3 is from rescue partners (I.e. Lunds, Cub Foods, etc.) and 1/3 ICA buys. In the “old days” every dollar donated would help ICA buy about $10 worth of food. Now, each dollar donated buys $3 worth of food! Food donations are more important than ever. They provide variety in food options for ICA shoppers.
ICA Sunday at St. David’s THIS SUNDAY
This coming Sunday, May 5, is the first Sunday of the month and St. David’s ICA Sunday.
Current needs this month include:
- baked beans
- salad dressing
- canned fruit
- juice boxes
- jelly/jam
- tea/coffee
- on-dairy milk
- crackers
non-food items
- dry pet food
- menstrual pads / tampons
- baby formula/food
- dish soap
The above items are suggestions. Anything you would like to donate is always appreciated. Bring your items to church this Sunday or drop them off at your convenience in one of the ICA baskets at the church entrances. While food donations help bring in supplies for immediate use, a financial donation to ICA helps to ensure the shelves can be well stocked. A check made out to ICA can be dropped in the Sunday collection plate. You can also go online at www.icafoodshelf.org, choose Donate from the menu & follow the prompts. Thank you for supporting ICA.
MN FoodShare March Campaign Results
The results are in. This year was the best FoodShare month for ICA in a long time! 135,651 pounds of food were donated - a 42% increase! And $263,595 was donated - a 10% increase!
Your generous participation is very much appreciated.
Annual Letter Carriers’ Postal Drive
Mark your calendars on Saturday, May 11th for the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. All you need to do is leave a bag of non-perishable food items at your mailbox that Saturday. It will be picked up & delivered to ICA.
