Because Lutherans love our (current) confirmands. We present Emanuel's 2023 Confirmation Class, Gavin Armstrong Harrison. Gavin studied the Bible, Catechisms, and tenets of our faith with students from Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in classes and activities led by both Pastor Megan and Pastor Marcus. It was a joy on Sunday to celebrate Gavin's life-long adventure of living out the Christian faith and to give thanks to God for filling us all with His hope, power, and love. We are better together..

Sunday readings will take a shift this summer. Using a rotation of texts called the "Narrative Lectionary," we move away from our usual four appointed readings to two readings, following a theme, and centering on a singular book of the Bible for the summer. The creators of this lectionary describe it in the following way, "The Narrative Lectionary is a four-year cycle of readings that runs from the Sunday after Labor Day to the Day of Pentecost. The rest of the year (First Sunday after Pentecost to the Sunday before Labor Day) consists of preaching series on biblical books or topics that fall outside the narrative cycle. Each summer session contains at least three units, including at least one series from the Old Testament; one series from the New Testament; and one catechetical series (Ten Commandments, Sacraments, Creeds or Lord’s Prayer)."
The SUMMER SINGERS are taking over as the Jubilation Singers go on holiday. Beginning June 4 join us in the Sanctuary at 10am for rehearsal. We sing every 1st and 3rd Sundays until September. Summer is a great, informal time to try something new. Please try us! Questions? Reach out to the Director of Music Tom Engler at thomas@elcseguin.org.

EMANUEL'S MUSIC MINISTRY
INVITES YOU TO A
| |
|
The Music Ministry of Emanuel’s encourages everyone to attend the service on June 25. The Heavenly Ringers will start things off by playing a great arrangement of “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.” Later in the service, the Summer Singers will perform a lovely arrangement of “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” by Thomas Dorsey. We will be using the “Now the Feast and Celebration” liturgical setting by then; this setting of the Communion Liturgy has a number of beautiful melodies contained in it. The hymn selections on the 25th will be chosen from the information you folks have been giving us during the month of May.
Following the service, you are all encouraged to join the Music Ministry members in the Women’s Ministry Room for a meal which we are calling “Finger Food Feast” (also known as “Forkless Potluck.”) In an effort to simplify the event, we are asking you to bring sandwiches, fruit and/or veggie trays, and chips and dips. Please no casseroles or anything that would require a lot of cleanup. As for desserts, cookies, brownies, or bar cookies would be great. No cakes or pies, please. We are trying to make this event fun but without all the hassle associated with clean up. After all, it is mid-summer. Let’s enjoy the simple food so that we may better enjoy each other’s company. When we are done, we just toss our recyclable plates and stuff into the appropriate trash bin and go home. We still need our naps! Watch for the sign-up sheet in the narthex. We have to make sure that we don’t end up with a lunch of cookies and not much else. If each family in attendance could bring 2 contrasting dishes, for example, sandwiches and a tray of fruit or veggies, I think we could keep everything in balance. PLEASE PUT THE JUNE 25TH SERVICE INTO YOUR PLANS, AND LET’S PRAISE GOD IN SONG AND GOOD FELLOWSHIP!
