Because Lutherans love their neighbor (pt. 2):
VERSE: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve. - 1 Peter 5:2 (NIV)
VOICE: The church is being called back to fulfilling the initial responsibility of ministering to the human condition. - Brandon T. Crowley
PRAYER: God, let us be trusted shepherds who tend to your flock and fulfill the mission we are called to as the church. Give us a willing heart and spirit to minister to the human condition with great care. Amen.
W
e are in this together. We are better together. We may be apart, but we are not alone.

Each week Sunday school curriculum developer (and former summer camp Arts and Crafts director) Dr. Dawn Rundman and her family will host Family Sunday School.

Congratulations!
A number of Emanuel's members shared the Seguin ISD Facebook post announcing this great honor. We are all so proud of you Heidi (Koepsel) Ulrich!
It was noted that Vogel Elementary School is named in memory of George Vogel, Marie's husband and Karen's father. "He was a long-time beloved elementary Seguin principal," commented one member. You are in good company, Heidi!

We want to know what you are doing, too! Please drop Sherry a line at

. You are missed! This is a great way to be neighborly and check in with each other.
Nice to hear from Donna Simmons today. It's not just her Daily Devotionals on Facebook that keep her humming right now. Let's see what she is up to and how we can relate to the new norm.

A Day In The Life of the Director of Congregational Care During a Pandemic
By Donna Simmons
|
|
First thing in the morning at 8am:
Wake up but moving much slower in getting out of bed.
Cannot go into the office so I make coffee to get myself motivated.
At home I start work by doing what a Director of Congregational Care does:
- Make calls daily to church members to check in on them,
- Update & maintain the prayer list,
- Send cards & postcards to members,
- On Tuesdays I participate in a Zoom Staff Meeting - Finally, contact with people, even if it is just seeing them on the phone. What a treat!!!
I usually work daily anywhere from 3-4 hours at home making a total of 20 hours a week. Honestly, with all the time I have at home I usually work more than the 20 hours because we all as a church need each other. That phone call to someone might be the only personal contact that member has had in awhile.
Noon-lunchtime:
Go to the refrigerator, look for something to eat, never know what I want to eat so decide to go out and check the mail. Wow, something from my Granddaughter. I come back into the house and go to the refrigerator again to see if anything has magically appeared inside that I want to eat. Of course what I want to eat is not what I should eat. But, oh well, I deserve to treat myself....Yum, Yum!!
I opened my mail after I ate and today I received the cutest painted picture from my Granddaughter, Mira. This has made my day!
Supper:
Go through the same routine as at lunch. Nothing looks that great.....but my tummy is growling so I again eat something that I probably should not be eating. Again......it filled me up. Anyway, I am stuck inside so I need something that makes me feel good. Unfortunately it is food that makes me feel good!! Mmmmmm!!
Nightime:
Now with my full tummy I sit down to watch TV. I usually fall asleep on the sofa, wake up, get in bed, and then cannot go back to sleep. Oh well, will watch TV from bed until I fall asleep.....yawn!
Next morning: Wake up, make coffee, work, repeat, repeat, repeat!!

SUMMER VBS/CAMP UPDATES:
VBS/Day Camp has been cancelled this summer per the Cross Trails board and staff, as well as the overall safety of our campers and volunteers.
Onsite camp, for those heading to Chrysalis and Ebert Ranch Camp, will happen as previously scheduled. There is still space in most programs if youth are still interested in attending. Contact Pastor Marcus for details.

Following an ELCA conference in California last year Pastor Kelsie came home excited to share the strategies in the book
Growing Young: Six Essential Strategies to Help Young People Discover and Love Your Church with Emanuel's Congregational Council. Didn't know it would be through Zoom at the time, but the group's every other week online meetings have been well received and thought provoking. Thank you, PK, for rich conversations that will strengthen the entire congregation, the young and the not-so-young.

"Through a series of surveys and studies, the authors discovered many positives about how churches function as well as areas where churches can improve outreach programs to appeal to teens, college-age students, and young professionals. Readers will appreciate that each chapter includes accounts of churches successfully executing [the book's] suggestions. In addition to explaining how to make these changes happen, the authors provide a summary of highlights at the end of each chapter along with strategic questions to help the reader's church "grow younger." In response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, the Emanuel's Lutheran Church office staff is working from home until further notice.
- It might look like the campus is open with all the activity going on. New, energy-efficient windows are being installed on the education wing. While we are not quite ready yet for gatherings, it is an excellent time to tackle some maintenance issues and needed upgrades. Special THANK YOU to our (masked) Property Stewards and Council for tending to this project at this time. For everything you do, really!
Everyone is still accessible via
email
and telephone. You may continue to call us at 830-379-5046. Messages are checked daily.
We continue to hold each of you and your families in our prayers. We are BETTER TOGETHER… even if it is virtually!
