Polka Sunday October 27th Get ready for a polka-infused worship service on Reformation Sunday, October 27th . We will gather on the lawn following worship and continue the festivities with a Sausage Lunch and entertainment by Mike and the Middletones. Sausage, beans, potato salad, and fixings have been provided, but please bring a side or dessert to share! This is a family event you won’t want to miss. Canned foods and free-will offerings will be collected for the Christian Cupboard.  Volunteers will be needed at the Sausage Lunch. Sign up in the Narthex to help with meat prep in the Fellowship Hall, Setting out/preparing desserts, serving lines, serving line clean up, moving serving tables from Fellowship Hall. (The behind-the-scene folk are the most fun, you know. Join 'em!)

Pub Theology is back! Seguin Brewing Co. FRIDAY, Oct. 18 @7 People have been gathering in pubs and public spaces for ages, talking about life, philosophy, faith, and deep questions of meaning. Increasingly, people all over are rediscovering the pub as a safe, open space where they can explore and express their own doubts and questions, learn from others, and engage people of varying religious traditions. In our increasingly fractured society, these spaces are not only welcome, but needed. The format is simple: beer, conversation, and God. Come bring your questions, your curiosity, and pull up a chair. Be ready to engage with people of varying religious traditions, philosophical perspectives and life experiences. You’ll be able to share your own wrestlings and thoughts while learning something new along the way, and hey— there’s likely to be a good craft beer you haven’t tried yet!

It is COFFEE CAKE time! Monday, Oct. 7, 21, 28 and Nov. 4 Ladies Aid will be baking their delicious Coffee Cakes on Monday, October 7th October 21st, October 28th and November 4th.   On those Mondays you can call the church office at 379-5046 and ask to speak to the ladies and reserve your fresh coffee cakes and pick them up by 1:00 pm on that day. The Ladies Aid would like to thank each and everyone for their continued support.

“CELEBRATING LIFE” Sunday, Oct. 13 & 20 @9:15 Women's Ministry Room Join the Congregational Care Ministries for a two-part conversation on the liturgy of the funeral. Pastor Marcus and Tom Engler will lead a discussion on the different parts of this celebration. Together we will walk through initial steps of planning a “Celebration of Life” service. Participants will be invited to create a folder of their own service hopes and wishes to be kept on file at the church.

All Saints Sunday November 3, 2019 The first Sunday of November is the day set aside in the church’s calendar to remember, reflect, and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away and those who have been baptized over our year together. During Emanuel’s 10:30 a.m. worship service, every family or individual representative will be presented a carnation and invited to gather at the baptismal font for a prayer.   This year we offer an additional place to remember and celebrate these saints. Decorated tables will be set up just below the altar. We invite anyone who is interested to bring a 5x7 standing framed photo of their loved one(s). Centered around the font, these Remembrance Tables will remind us of the great cloud of witnesses who have gone on before us and whose, faith, life, and memories continue to impact and encourage us. There will be candles to light for each family.

HOPE IN THE HOLIDAYS 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10 at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church Our society has huge expectations of the holidays. All around us, whether it be on television or in the shopping mall, the message that is sent is “The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year.” While they can be and often are a season of renewed memories, traditions, and family ties, the holidays can also be challenging. When we compare our experience to someone else’s, it’s easy to feel out of step. It’s easy to get caught in the trap of trying to make it the perfect holiday. And if we’re struggling with life issues like an illness, leaving or losing a job, or the death of a loved one, we really feel adrift.   As these seasons approach, we invite you to a concert with singer and songwriter David Kauffman Hope in the Holidays David’s music is good for the soul. Our hope is that through song and story this concert will connect with your story and will bring you Hope in the Holidays.   Join us for this Community Concert sponsored by Emanuel’s Lutheran Church and St James Catholic Church

Book Study (1st Floor Green Classroom): Screwtape Letters with Pastor Marcus. Intergenerational Study (Fellowship Hall): Lessons for young and old the last Sunday of every month. Explore God's word with song and play. The Joy Class (204): Bible stories and songs for adults with intellectual disabilities.
