Because Lutherans love history: they were heavily represented at the Heritage Village last week. The 2021 Leadership class of the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated a new pathway at the Seguin Conservation Society's Heritage Village lined with fundraising bricks remembering Seguin's leaders and citizens. Beth Zies and Greg and Ruth Ander's were instrumental in this renovation project. But wait, Lutherans were everywhere: the Society's leadership team has Lutherans aplenty; the emcee here sure looks familiar as do several attendees; and Pastor Marcus offered the invocation. Heck, even the Campbell-Hoermann Long Cabin pictured here has Lutheran roots. We are better together.

A LETTER FROM PASTOR MARCUS
July 22, 2021
Greetings Emanuel’s!
Amid so many great things happening around the church and through its ministries, we are continuously reminded that COVID’s shadow that still looms among us. As variants increase the positivity rates in and around Seguin, there is a growing difficulty finding guidance and recommendations to make policy decisions because those in the trenches are figuring things out just as we are. We, your Executive Council and Pastors, are in conversation with other leaders as how best to prepare for the continued journey ahead. We, along with the full Congregation Council, will take up our current practices and shift, as needed. In the meantime, I ask for your help to make our place of worship, education, fellowship, and outreach the safest and healthiest it can be and remember the following with grace. continue reading here

July's kick-off of the 3rd Thursday Senior Social Club was a rousing success! Forty people enjoyed a delicious spaghetti lunch provided by Pastor Marcus and Kristen. It was a chatty group and the conversation lingered until the coffee pot was dry and most of the cakes and banana pudding were gone. Senior Care Coordinator Donna Simmons says that plans are underway for another fabulous meal and good time next month on August 19th. Mark your calendars now!

Sanctuary
The ELCA became a sanctuary denomination following the Churchwide Assembly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2019. That means the ELCA is publicly declaring that walking alongside immigrants and refugees is a matter of faith. The story of Miriam Vargas and First English Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, demonstrates how that congregation stepped out in faith.
