GVHFH’S 29TH
HOUSE IN SEGUIN
The Guadalupe Valley Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors is pleased to announce that its 29th house, now under construction in Seguin, has been named the Layne Hoppe House in honor of one of GVHFH’s greatest supporters and contributors, Dr. Layne Hoppe.
Layne has been instrumental in GVHFH’s development since its founding in 1993. He was one of our lead builders on several of our houses, served as our building supervisor for a number of years, helped arrange the use of the Sagebiel Building in downtown Seguin for our very successful Habitat Store, served many years on our nominations committee, and last year provided outstanding leadership as GVHFH president.
Layne’s commitment to Habitat goes far beyond his service to GVHFH, however. During his years at Texas Lutheran University, he served as faculty advisor of TLU’s student Habitat chapter and accompanied three student Habitat service trips to other cities in the United States. He also participated, at his own expense, in the construction of Habitat housing on a Native American reservation in South Dakota and as far away as Poland!
Unfortunately, recent health problems now prevent Layne’s active participation in Habitat, but his commitment to Habitat’s mission and work remains as strong as ever. We invite you to join us in honoring Layne for his decades of dedicated service to Habitat for Humanity by making a financial contribution to the construction of the Layne Hoppe House. It currently costs about $62 per square foot to build one of our houses, so we ask that you consider a donation that will fund the construction of one, two, three or more square feet of the Hoppe House. Any amount – large or small – will be most helpful in building this house and greatly appreciated
