Because Lutherans love group meals. The Emanuel's Lutheran Day School Sweetheart Spaghetti Fundraiser was a night of good food, sweet moments, and abundant generosity. Thank you to all who donned aprons, provided door prizes, and contributed to the $1555.00 raised to support the impactful ministry of ELDS. The students, faculty, and families are blessed by you. (Have a little FOMO? Emanuel's annual Mardi Gras Pancake Supper is next Tuesday!) We are better together.

Transfiguration of Our Lord, Year A
Sunday’s festival is a bridge between the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany cycle that comes to a close and the Lent-Easter cycle that begins in several days. On a high mountain Jesus is revealed as God’s beloved Son, echoing the words at his baptism. This vision of glory sustains us as Jesus faces his impending death in Jerusalem. We turn soon to Ash Wednesday and our yearly baptismal journey from Lent to Easter. We will put aside the alleluia at the conclusion of Sunday’s liturgy. This word of joy will be omitted during the penitential season of Lent and will be sung again at Easter.

Ashes-to-Go will be outside the church on Gonzales Street from Noon to 1pm. Pastors and staff from our Compass Cooperative will distribute ashes and give blessings to passers-by who may not have time to attend our evening service.
Worship with Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes will be in the Sanctuary at 6:30 PM.
| | "By Faith: A Midweek Lenten Series," will center our time each Wednesday on this question, “What is faith?” The text from Hebrews 11:1 defines it in this way: “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This series will focus on the book of Hebrews, especially the eleventh chapter. Our first four weeks provide a journey through the faith of the Old Testament figures, especially Noah, Abraham, Moses, and the Israelites. Then, our fifth week, will bring us to Jesus, “the perfecter of our faith,” and his path to the cross. Our evening will begin with a meal at 6:00pm. There is always a place for you at the table. | | |

THE MOMENT HE KNEW: What began with resistance unfolded into a lifetime of choosing each other.
After 60 years of marriage, Mickey and Jim Cavin still tease each other about who asked whom to marry - but that disagreement fits neatly into a love story that began with resistance.

"Lord of the Rings and the Parables of Jesus," Jan 11 - Feb 15 led by: Paul Sims & Pastor Marcus at 9:00am in the Family Life Center. The story in the Lord of the Rings is so fundamental and incarnational, it’s no wonder people see the Gospel in them. Join us as we compare the Gospel as we know it, how it appears in J. R. R. Tolkien’s works, and learn to understand the parables that Jesus tells all the more clearly. We’ll work through “The Good News of the Return of the King: The Gospel in Middle-earth” by Michael T. Jahosky while reading Isaiah 40-55, along with many of the parables Jesus mentioned throughout the gospels.
