Because Lutherans love the beauty of the earth. We are reminded of the poet Mary Oliver's simple lesson, "Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it." The blooming okra towering in the Garden of Eatin' has a lot so say right now. It is astonishing, actually. Thanks be to God for our gardeners who pay attention so very well. We are better together.

Please join us Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
Masks are encouraged but no longer required on the church campus.

Even more astonishing that okra in the garden, there are new babies in our midst we must tell about. Pictured right is Emanuel's Accountant and Bookkeeper Jeni Payton with her grandson Clark David Bower. Pictured left is Gloria Hanna with her granddaughter Morgan Elizabeth Brown. We look forward to meeting them, but for now we bet Jeni, Gloria, and Greg would be pleased as punch if you asked to see a current picture. Congratulations to our newest first time grandparents!

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF UPDATES
|
|
Often, when natural disasters strike or when war drives families from their homes, our hearts ache with compassion, but we don’t know how to help. Making Lutheran World Relief Kits is a simple, fun and tangible way to offer comfort to those suffering and express love to our neighbors in need.
LWR Kits are specifically designed to help people coping with poverty, disaster, conflict and more. Whether a kit helps someone to maintain good hygiene, care well for a newborn baby, keep education going during a crisis or learn a new vocation, LWR Kits provide dignity and hope in the direst situations. (LWR.org)
|
|
Everyone at Emanuel's is invited to participate in LWR opportunities. Our LWR Quick Quilters work year round and sponsor the following projects.
-
Throughout the year Emanuel’s members and friends donate fabrics of all kinds that are sewn into patchwork “quilts.” Thank you!
-
In July, supplies to fill School Kits and Personal Care Kits will be collected. .
-
In September, on "God’s Work. Our Hands." Sunday, everyone is invited to help assemble these kits.
-
In November, Emanuel’s kits and quilts, packed in abut 75-80 boxes, are taken to an Ingathering of donations from Lutheran churches in South Texas. That Ingathering will be at St. John Lutheran, Marion. From there, the eighteen wheelers deliver our gifts to the warehouse and then overseas.
SO, now, July is a good time to take advantage of Back-to-School Sales for the School Kits…………and, amidst the aisles, pick up some supplies for the Personal Care Kits. There will be containers at both the Mountain Street and Travis Street entrances to receive donations. Monetary donations also welcome. Make checks payable to Emanuel’s Lutheran Church with a note for LWR Kit Supplies

SPEAKING OUT ON CLIMATE CHANGE
|
|
One area funded through our Mission Support funds shared with our synod and ELCA at large is that of Advocacy for various causes. With 2022 quickly becoming the eighth year in a row of hottest temperatures ever recorded worldwide, advocates are speaking out to our government to put into effect measures that can slow down and eventually stop the effect greenhouse gases are having on our environment. Making sure the earth is habitable for future generations is certainly a matter of stewardship.
