ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY

November 6

On this day during worship we will remember and celebrate those who have died this year and those who were baptized. As each loved one's name is read, families will be invited to come to the front of the church for a special time of prayer and the gift of flowers.

A “Remembrance Table” will be at the front steps of the altar in the Sanctuary. Everyone is invited to bring a framed, standing photo of loved ones they would like to honor this day, even if they passed before this year or were not affiliated with Emanuel’s.

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

In September, 1522, Martin Luther’s groundbreaking translation of the New Testament from its original language, Greek, into German was published. For Luther, and for Christians today, the New Testament is a gift that keeps on giving.

MUSIC MINISTRY NOTE FROM TOM

Sunday, October 9 was a significant day in the life of the Music Ministry at Emanuel's and I am very excited to tell you about it.For a number of years, the part of the Music Ministry known as Instrumental Praise has played music regularly for the church services. We tried to provide musical offerings once a month as well as on festival occasions such as Reformation, Christmas, and Easter.

With the coming of COVID, almost everything came to a stop, or at least was modified to accommodate our change in worship styles until such time as we could return to "normal."

We believe that the time has come for new beginnings, and to pick up where we left off several years ago. The group will make its "re-debut" on All Saints Sunday, November 6. As Director of Music, I am delighted and excited that the group is "up and running" again. We had a great rehearsal last Sunday after the service. It will be fun to play for you again on November 6.

Please include Instrumental Praise in your prayers. Your support is invaluable.

Participating in a small group is a meaningful way to be a part of the life of the church. Emanuel's hosts an array of small groups that feed the soul, the body, and the heart of individuals and the church as a whole. For more information about Small Groups at Emanuel's and how you can participate please reference our website here.

HEALING HOLIDAYS

Making Your Grief Count

November 13

Grief during the Holidays is always challenging, and even more so in the past years. The season of the holidays renews memories, family ties, and traditions. We become painfully aware that our loved one is no longer present. Learning to navigate a changing world combined with the sorrow of our loss causes us to grieve on many levels. How do we allow ourselves in these times to “make our grief count” and find our resilience?

This workshop will help participants learn self care and coping skills to prepare for the holidays. This will help families to embrace their grief, while strengthening characteristics of resilience. Participants will use the holidays to discover how their loved one can live on into their life story, using this special time to continue to heal.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

Sundays, October 9, 16 and 25 at 9:15am

Room 215 across from office

We will look into the history and theology around Melchizedek during this three week class. There are many conspiracy theories about that character, so we will unravel and unpack the real story starting in Genesis, tracking him through the Dead Sea scrolls, and ending up in Hebrews in the New Testament. We’ll even look at some end times eschatology in Genesis! You’ll see the Old Testament come alive and learn to think a bit more like an ancient Israelite. Paul Sims will lead this fascinating discussion.
