Because Lutherans love good food and good times. Chef Bill Hauserman prepared delicious chicken gumbo, Shrimp Creole, jambalaya, muffulettas, and King Cakes for the February Senior Social's "Fasching Fest." Thank you, Chef! Pictured below are Marsha S., Gail H., Deb H. and Carrie M. serving Louisiana cuisine to hungry SSC guests. The fun didn't stop here, though. Join us for Emanuel's 3rd annual Mardi Gras Pancake and Sausage Supper this Tuesday! We are better together.

March 2, 2025 Worship Bulletin

Transfiguration of Our Lord / Last Sunday after Epiphany, Year C

Witnesses to the glory of God in the face of Jesus reflect that glory in the world. It was true for Moses. It was doubtless true for Peter, James, and John. We pray that it will be true of all of us who see God’s glory in the word and in the supper and who are being “transformed into the same image” by God’s Spirit.

Welcome Pastor Katie!

We are excited to welcome Pastor Katie to the pulpit this Sunday.

The Rev. Katie Wegner serves as the Cross Trails Program Director at Cross Trails Ministry. Pastor Katie loves connecting with people through the transformative power of an experience at camp. She grew up attending Cross Trails programs as a camper, served on summer staff, brought young people as a leader in parish ministry and is grateful to now be a part of the Cross Trails team. Cross Trails Ministry is a year-round camp and retreat ministry operated by the congregations of the Southwestern Texas Synod of the ELCA. Their mission is to provide unique settings and experiences in which youth, adults and families are strengthened in their relationships with Christ, each other, the church and community.

Ashes-to-Go will be outside the church on Gonzales Street from Noon to 1pm. Pastors from Emanuel’s, Spirit of Joy, and Frieden’s Church will distribute ashes and give blessings to passers-by who may not have time to attend our evening service.

Worship with Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes will be in the Sanctuary at 6:30 PM.

Ash Wednesday reminds us that we enter this season together “with the whole church.” Though many common Lenten practices rightly invite us to individual acts of “repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love,” Lent is also a time for the deepening of community. Using readings from Mark’s gospel, this midweek series invites the congregation to reflect on what it means to be in community with one another, with the world, with creation, and with God. Our evening will begin with a meal. There is a place for you at the table.

2025 LENTEN DEVOTIONAL

Emanuel’s invites you to use the Luther Seminary 2025 Lenten devotional, “There in God’s Garden” for daily personal study and reflection. Simply download the pdf here to your phone or computer.

BEING THE CHURCH

On Sunday, March 2, 2025, immediately following the celebration of Holy Communion, we will hold a special called meeting that will hear the proposal and take potential action on the replacement of the carpet in all carpeted areas throughout the three levels of our building, including the chapel and altar areas, and adding carpet to the 1st level hallway. Two opportunities to see the proposed products, in their respective areas, will take place at 9:15am February 23 and March 2. The task force invites you to gather in the Sanctuary.

SUNDAY ADULT CLASSES

THE HERITAGE CLASS meets at 9:15 am Sunday mornings on Level 3 in room 307. Participants explore the deeper meaning found in the Bible and seek to unlock its wisdom through fellowship and robust group discussion, making the Bible relevant and applicable to daily life.

This spring, our Bible lessons follow the theme “Exclusion and Embrace,” a series in two units during Lent and the weeks following that encourage us to consider what we need to let go of and what we need to take on as followers of Jesus.

THE JOY CLASS: Bible stories and songs for adults with intellectual disabilities at 9am on the first Sunday of the month in the Women's Ministry Room.

HABAKKUK: FAITH IN TOUGH TIMES is Sundays, March 9 – April 13 at 9am. Join us for our Sunday morning Lenten study in the Family Life Center. We will read together the book of Habakkuk and other related Biblical texts as we ponder God’s work during challenging times and how we can respond faithfully.
