17th Annual Holy Apostles 5k Family Run & Walk

Please mark your calendars! On Saturday morning, June 17 at 8:30am, we will hold our annual Holy Apostles 5K Family Run & Walk. Over the years, this event’s runners, pledges and sponsors have raised over $100,000 for charitable organizations such as the Philoxenia House, Rebuild Ukraine and International Committee of the Red Cross.

This year, we are looking to raise $10,000 for Lurie Children’s Hospital Outpatient and Rehab Center in Westchester. We can’t do it without your help. Contributions for our beneficiary will be accepted through June 30. You may register or make a donation by clicking the appropriate buttons below or in our Fellowship Hall during Coffee Hour following Divine Liturgy. Be sure to spread the word among your family and friends!

Holy Apostles is planning a trip for our seniors to go see The Shrine of Christ’s Passion in St. John, Indiana. We will meet at Holy Apostles at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28 and then board a coach bus for our journey.  Club Cars will be available if you are unable to walk through the Shrine. The tour guides will drive you on an informative tour of the grounds.  Wheelchairs will also be available.

After the tour we will have lunch at the Cedar Lake, Lighthouse Restaurant.

The trip is free of charge thanks to a generous donation from the Hellenic Foundation!

More about His Grace Bishop Neofitos of Kenya

After being installed in the newly formed Diocese of Nyeri and Mt. Kenya about 7 years ago, HG Bishop Neofitos tirelessly worked to transform the Diocese--he built a Diocese Center, revived and built multiple churches, educated his clergy and presvyteres, and helped establish two orphanages, and and St. Anthony's Orthodox Secondary School--a boarding school for girls. In February of this year, His Holiness Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria, transferred His Grace to a second newly established Diocese--Eldoret in NW Kenya, and has called upon Bishop Neofiotos to continue his apoltolic work there.

The main goal of his current fund-raising endeavor is to raise funds to establish a Diocese Center (a church, offices, and lodging) for his new Diocese of Eldoret. Donations for this endeavor should be made out to: OCMC / "Eldoret Diocese" in the memo.

Your stewardship provides foundational support for our parish operations and ministries. Stewardship is also an opportunity for each of us to examine our priorities and values, express our thankfulness, and participate in the work the Lord calls each of us to do.

We thank you for your generous offerings through the years and ask that you prayerfully consider how you might offer your time, talent, and treasure for 2023.

Ways to Give Back

Holy Apostles Philoptochos, Missions Ministry, and the Metropolis ministry Project HOPE continue to work successfully together to provide food assistance to those in need.

Grocery bags attached with lists of required non-perishable items are available for parishioners to pick up in the narthex. The filled bags are then returned to the designated counter in the multi-purpose room. Once we receive 20-25 bags, the bags are distributed. The Project Hope staff may pick the bags up and distribute them to the greater Chicago area, bags may be delivered to the Westchester Food Pantry, or the Immanuel Lutheran Food Pantry collects them from HA. Regardless of where the donations ultimately go, our efforts remain part of the Metropolis program as Project Hope Donations.

Your gifts of food are greatly appreciated and are always finding their way to those in need. The Metropolis Project HOPE has acknowledged Holy Apostles' consistent contributions with praise and gratitude for your generosity.
