The NO KINGS protest in the US last week inspires Susan's reflection this Sunday. Buoyed by Samuel's prescient warning "When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen." (1 Samuel 8).
The scriptures have much to offer our present day realities. And if they don't speak to you this Sunday, the hymns, the hospitality, and the Holy Spirit surely will.
See you Sunday.
UPCOMING:

Saint Andrew’s UCW invites you to participate in a Soup Challenge to support the School Breakfast Program at Joseph Howe Elementary School.
Building on the success of this initiative over the past five years, they are again inviting you to participate in this very worthwhile cause from the comfort of your home by tossing a loonie, a toonie or more into a jar every time you have a bowl of soup in the month of November.
Don’t like soup? No problem, substitute your favourite meal or treat.
Last year the UCW donated $3,148 to this program, thanks to your participation and generosity. So, let’s do it again and help give those hungry kids a really great start to their day by donating to the School Breakfast Program.
The challenge to you - eat and donate for the month of November - and together we can make a difference right in our own community!

Muslim and Jew: A Love Story
This Sunday at Saint Andrew's
| |
Sunday, October 26
5:30pm
at Saint Andrew's
Jews and Muslims share rich traditions of love poetry; in intense, often erotic language, poets and lovers have expressed desire and longing for other humans and even God. These traditions did not emerge separately, but in intimate dialogue over centuries of cultural exchange. In this talk, two scholar-practitioners of Judaism and Islam will illuminate each traditions' profound expressions of the love divine. Join us as we tell a shared Jewish-Muslim love story - that we hope inspire renewed relationships today.
Speakers:
Dr. Eva Mroczek, Dalhousie University
Dr. Syed Adnan Hussain, Saint Mary’s University
Admission to this event is free.

Jubilee 2025 is a global ecumenical initiative that builds on the transformative success of Jubilee 2000, which canceled $100 billion of debt for 36 of the poorest countries.
In Canada, KAIROS Canada is leading the campaign in collaboration with Citizens for Public Justice, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada, and the Office of Religious Congregations for Integral Ecology and The Canadian Council of Churches. Together, they are mobilizing communities of faith and conscience.
Join them in calling on world leaders to:
Cancel unjust debts.
Reform the financial system to prevent future crises.
Establish a fair debt framework at the United Nations (UN).
Join voices with Indigenous peoples, global partners, organizations and movements around the world to Turn Debt into Hope. Together we can create a just world for all.
This Sunday, the Social Justice Committee will have a table in the back of the church with more information and petition to sign. The goal is for 100,000 signatures by the end of this year.
You can sign the petition here OR in person at the church on Sunday.

Symphony Nova Scotia: Bach and Friends
October 26
2:00pm
Featuring: Julia Wedman, leader & violin solo; Renaud Lapierre, violin; Mark Lee, violin; Casey Granofsky, flute
With his exceptional talent, massive career, and glorious, transcendent works, Johann Sebastian Bach is the undisputed father of classical music – but lesser known are his many brilliant contemporaries. Principal Baroque Leader Julia Wedman and Symphony Nova Scotia pay homage to Bach’s friends with music from Telemann, Fasch, and Pisendel, plus Pachelbel’s iconic, world-famous Canon. And, of course, hear Bach’s mighty creations – our premiere of the spectacular Concerto for Three Violins, an orchestral arrangement of the famed Goldberg Variations, and the delightful Suite No. 3, including the achingly beautiful “Air on the G String”, one of world’s most famous pieces of music.
