THIS SUNDAY

For A New Beginning (excerpt)

John O’Donohue

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,

Where your thoughts rarely think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

The Advent season of hope, joy, and new beginning is upon us.   We take these things seriously at Saint Andrews – and you with them.  This First Advent Sunday the Halifax Gay Men’s Chorus joins us for worship and wonderful singing.

In the coming weeks:

Dec. 8        Advent Peace

Dec. 15      Advent Joy, featuring selections from G. F. Handel’s Messiah

Dec. 22      Advent Love and Communion, with guest musicians Boardwalk Brass

Dec. 24      Christmas Eve Service at 4:00 pm

Every Wednesday:  Contemplative Practice in the Sanctuary  6:00 – 6:25 pm

COMMUNITY NEWS

UCW SOUP CHALLENGE

Thank you to all who participated in the Soup Challenge last month. You can send your funds online here (select "Give to UCW Soup Fund" from the drop-down menu) or see Gail by the Welcome Table to donate with cash, cheque or debit/credit card.

Memorial poinsettias are a Christmas tradition at St. Andrew’s.

To give a poinsettia in memory of a loved one, send their name and your donation by December 4, using the DONATE NOW button on our website www.saintandrewshfx.ca (select "Give to Poinsettia Fund" in the drop-down menu). Be sure to include your name and the name of the person you wish to honour. There are also special offering envelopes for them at the welcome table and Gail will have the Square terminal if you would prefer to donate by card.

Poinsettias will be placed in the Sanctuary for Sunday Services and concerts during Advent, Christmas and Epiphany

Decorating Day December 3

Can you help to make our sanctuary beautiful?  Kelly is organized (as always) and many hands will make light work of the trees, wreaths, and garlands.

Email to let us know you’ll help or just show up between 10 - 11:30am! We will have Christmas music filling the sanctuary.

On Sunday, December 15 we will have our annual UCW Cookie Sale in support of the Brunswick Street Mission.

Our Social Justice Committee will also have special items for sale to support people in Palestine and Guatemala.

Both sales will be set up in the church sanctuary.

Oh how we all enjoy the warmth and fellowship around the coffee table on a Sunday morning but your tiny coffee group is struggling to make it happen. We now have only 2 regular volunteers and one monthly. It would be nice for your coffee team to have a break once in awhile. Don't let the task scare you off, with a little bit of training you too could be a part of our team. We are having another training session in the kitchen after church on Dec 1st. Come and see how it's done. If you are able to help out with set up and or clean up, we encourage you to attend this short session or better yet, come to the kitchen at 9:30 any Sunday and get hands on training and help out your loyal coffee committee. We would love to have a few more hands to share the work. (No heavy lifting required, all supplies are wheeled down and up via the elevator.)
