Spotlight on Our Community: UCW Soup Challenge

Thank you!

$1665.86 raised for children

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who donated to the UCW Soup Challenge fundraising project in November! The campaign raised $1,665.86 for the School Breakfast Program at Joseph Howe Elementary School.

The school's principal responded to our donation, “Your continued support truly makes a difference in the day-to-day well-being of our students, and we are very grateful.”

Thank you, Saint Andrew's community!

Cub Pack Food Drive

On Tuesday evening (January 13) the 36th Cub Pack were able to hold a food drive that they had to cancel before Christmas.

On Wednesday they delivered 5 boxes of non-perishables to the Brunswick Street Mission food bank.

We love this photo of Santa’s junior elves, and a full trunk!

The 36th Cub Pack meets Tuesdays at 6:30 pm, here at Saint Andrew's.

Saint Andrew's Supports Social Justice: Action for Palestine

There is no peace or justice for Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories. In Gaza since the ceasefire was declared, 414 Palestinians have been killed, 1,145 injured and 680 bodies have been retrieved from under the rubble, according to the Ministry of Health. In the West Bank there are daily settler attacks on Palestinian villagers resulting in terror, deaths, destruction, homelessness and loss of personal property.

Palestinian Christians have sent a new cry from the heart of their suffering to fellow Christians around the world for help and hope. They are inviting us to respond to their desperate situation of ongoing genocide and forced displacement from their land and homes. We want to follow Jesus' call to care for the hungry, to speak up for justice, and to be makers of peace. Here are some ways we can respond to put our faith into action.

Israel has suspended the licenses of 37 international humanitarian aid organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, World Vision, and Oxfam and banned them from operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory including Gaza. This could have devastating consequences for Palestinian civilians who face acute and widespread humanitarian need. Please write asking Canada to use all available leverage with Israel to reverse these actions. Here is a quick and easy way to write our government about this critical issue.

There has been a surge of new settlement building by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories including in the Bethlehem area and in the E1 area which will cut the West Bank in half and disallow the possibility of a Palestinian state. Please write to our Canadian government urging Canada to speak up for the people of Bethlehem and against the continued building of illegal settlements in the West Bank. If you haven't already written to our federal government about this situation, here is a sample letter that you can edit and use.

Canada has established a program to reunite Canadians with their families who are in Gaza, but no families have been successful in reuniting with their families through that program. Some of our neighbours in Halifax have applied and have been waiting for over two years to reunite with her family through this program. Here is a quick and easy way to write to urge our government to fulfill the promise of this program to reunite families.

On The Stage at Saint Andrew's

The Stage at Saint Andrew's is creating community for musicians, and bringing the community to them as well. We’re not trying to take over the local neighbourhood music venues; they are already doing fabulous things. We want to join them! We’re small but meaningful. We’re small but magical.

Symphony Nova Scotia: Vivaldi Meets the Middle East

Saturday, January 18 at 2:00pm

Vivaldi meets the Middle East in this engaging and immersive concert experience! Discover the intersection of baroque and folk with Persian and Swedish music and instruments. Mohammad Sahraei, a multi-instrumentalist and ethnomusicologist originally from Iran, plays the tar and daf, while our very own Kirsty Money plays the nyckelharpa in this concert of Middle Eastern and European classics. Symphony Nova Scotia also premieres Vivaldi’s “Grosso Mogul” Violin Concerto – one of the most famous concertos of the Baroque era apart from The Four Seasons – and performs highlights from Telemann, Purcell, Geminiani, Mozart, and more.

Cecilia Concerts: Mark Fewer & Mathieu Gaudet

Saturday, January 24 at 7:30pm

Pianist Mathieu Gaudet and violinist Mark Fewer come together for a captivating program that spans two centuries of musical brilliance. A Juno Award-winner, Fewer brings expressive depth and fearless versatility to every performance, while Gaudet's nuanced playing adds clarity and warmth. Known for his extensive repertoire and innovative artistry, Gaudet’s performance is complemented by Fewer’s genre-defying violin mastery, with over 200 works premiered throughout his career. Together, they deliver a performance that celebrates the fusion of tradition and innovation, blending virtuosity, emotion, and creativity in a truly dynamic experience.

All are welcome at Saint Andrew's!
