Welcome to virtual worship for this the 2nd Sunday in Advent.

The texts for the day may be accessed here:

We begin with Isaiah - second Isaiah, this time - who offers a word of encouragement to the exiles and has them look ahead to brighter times; 2 Peter's writer also calls his or her readers to focus themselves on living lives that will hasten the coming of those days; and, lastly, Mark's Gospel takes us back to the beginning and the appearance of John the Baptist in the Judean wilderness. What's not to like?

Our readers for Advent 2 are Hope Sayles (Isaiah) and Martha Grahame (2 Peter), and our prayer leader is Deb Shupe. The third lecture in our adult formation series - Understanding the New Testament - begins at 11:30

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Angel Tree update If you've purchased gifts for the Angel Tree please have them under the tree no later than this Sunday, Dec. 6. Hilary has to turn them all in on Monday. Thank you to all who helped give these kids a happy Christmas when they might not have had anything at all.
Communion Wafers are Available for Wednesday Morning and Sunday Eucharists

I have consecrated - i.e., blessed, set aside for this single, spiritual and sacred purpose - an ample supply of wafers and have placed them in small plastic bags. The bags will be in marked baskets - gluten free, 1, 2 or 3 - and those baskets will be placed on the altar in the brick church. They are available now for you to pick up in advance of the next Eucharist. Please take the quantity you need. (If you have more than three in your household, please utilize whatever combination will work for your family).

A word about the wafers and how they should be handled. In short, with reverence. Which, to begin with, means to not handle them more than necessary. When you arrive at home, find a good spot to place them where they will not be disturbed by daily routines.

And lastly, please do not take more than you need for more than a service or two. We will try to keep a supply on hand, but the bishop has asked that we not consecrate too many. So, be mindful of others who will want to receive them as well. Many thanks. I look forward to sharing communion more fully with you in our virtual gatherings.

From the Rector...

In addition to our Sunday worship, during Advent we will also celebrate Evensong on Sunday nights, at 7 PM. Dec 6, 13 & 20th

As is our recent tradition, we will once again mark the difficulty that some experience during the holidays with a Longest night observance on December 21.

And on Christmas Eve we will gather Virtually at 4 PM, the usual time for our family service. Our musicians will be presenting a musical prelude to the service, of both solo and choral music, and one or two carols to get you warmed up for what comes next...  at 4:30 we will begin the liturgy. One of the highlights will be our Christmas pageant, which will be performed in the place of the traditional Gospel reading. (We all know the story, and trust me, you will enjoy this version).

Eucharist will be part of the service and I mention that so that you will have time to plan to pick up consecrated wafers from the altar in the brick church. It will be fitting that - even at a distance- we will all share in the same bread.

Special note to our families with children: If you have not responded to the invitation to participate in the pageant, please do so, or reach out to Erryn Fleming. (errynfleming@gmail.com) There are plenty of parts to go around, and many opportunities to play more than one role (we want lots of angels for their big scene with the shepherds!!!)

Lastly, links for all of the worship events will be sent out along with reminders. I hope that you will join us as in this season we push back against the growing darkness in anticipation of the coming light.

December 6th is the date for next Heartfelt Pantry, DRIVE THRU, DROP OFF Sunday. Time: 12:00 to 2:00.

 Heartfelt Food Pantry  Current Needs

Thank you for all your help in gathering food for Heartfelt. We DO NOT NEED PASTA at this this time.

However, we do need savory items: Stew, Rice-a-roni, Spaghetti and Meatballs, etc. Items that can be used as main dish items. We have pasta or spaghetti for one main meal but we need a headliner for second meal. Anything you think would be good.

We still need individual packs of crackers, plain or with cheese or peanut butter. We pair this with soup for lunch.

We always have two items of fresh fruit to go into boxes for the students but can always use induvial servings of apple sauce and assorted fruit cups.

We are currently serving 28 students. Thank you for supporting this important ministry.
ECW parking lot Christmas Market. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Munn living room as ECW elves contribute home-made items for our Parking Lot Christmas Market Saturday, Dec 12 from 1-4 p.m. Homemade candles, cork-decorated items, lots of knit items to wear or decorate your home, bread and cookie mixes and Sherrill's pumpkin pie are just the tip of the iceberg of goodies for you to gift or keep for yourself. Shop local and support the ECW!

We'll have fire pits to keep you toasty as you shop the tents of the treasures in the Parish Hall lot.

Still haven't ordered your Glühwein? Call the Munns at 410-286-7586 to place your order for this highly prized spiced wine by this Sunday, Dec 6. Just $20 for 750-ml bottle. Microwave at home for a delicious warm drink.

Have items to donate? Contact the Munns.
