Welcome to the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost...

A reminder: You are welcomed to join us in person in the brick church for either the 8 AM or 10 AM service. Masks are required of all attendees.

The texts are available online if you would like to read and digest before Sunday: http://www.lectionarypage.net/YearB_RCL/Pentecost/BProp6_RCL.html

Now, about the texts.... We continue in the book of Samuel for our Old Testament text - more on Saul and the troubling monarchy - though our preacher will refer to the Ezekiel passage as well on the way to Mark's gospel and a different take on a pair of parables about the kingdom of God.

Our volunteers for the Hybrid (10AM) service are: Cheryl Thompson - reading Samuel - Deb Watson will read from Paul's letter to Corinth; and Deb Shupe is our prayer leader. As will be the case going forward, readers and prayer leaders will always have the option of participating in person or on Zoom. Note: A new schedule for the Zoom service is coming shortly.

There is no formation this week following the service. But, we will begin our summer book read on June 27, gathering - as usual - after the 10 AM service. Our book will be The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich, a novel based on her grandfather's experiences battling against closure of Indian reservations in the 1950s. If you would like us to order a copy for you, please call the office or email your request.

Regathering Plans - Great News!!!! We have reached the point in our regathering process where members may attend in-person. You should have recieved a special emailing detailing what to expect. Members may attend either service - the 8 o'clock spoken liturgy or the 10 AM Zoom service (Yes, we can now have a live studio audience for this hybrid liturgy. And, you always have the option of participating from home)
Our limit for each service is 43 attendees.

In case you missed it, the Vestry's gathering plan document can be found HERE.
Evensong- On the last Sunday of each month at 6pm, a virtual Evensong service will be offered. Next offering will be June 27.

The inspiration for the theme of this month's Evensong is a message regarding love, as found in the third chapter of 1John. A creative liturgy of readings, prayers and music, sacred and secular together will provide opportunity for thoughtful contemplation and quiet reflection.

NAACP JUNETEENTH COMMUNITY DAY

            Jefferson Patterson Park

                June 19, 2021

            11 - 5

Juneteenth  – also known as Freedom DayJubilee DayLiberation Day, and Emancipation Day – is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it is now celebrated annually on June 19 throughout the United States, with increasing official recognition.
The Calvert Branch of the NAACP has made this celebration a long standing tradition in the County, naming it Community Day - as in - the community is invited to come and share in food and song and fellowship. As your rector- and an active member of the local branch of the NAACP - I encourage you to come on out and be part of the festivities. (And also please talk me out of competing in the annual talent show)

Masks will be required. Hope to see you there.

The Discussion Series: “Understanding Ourselves and Others” Focused on Calvert County and Presented by All Saints Parish, est. 1692.
The First Discussion: Who sat where then, and why? Who sits where now, and why?
The title is derived from the records of colonial All Saints Parish showing that well-to-do landowners sat in box pews reserved for them, while enslaved people who built the church, other people of color and poor whites were limited to the balcony which greatly restricted participation.
June 27th, 2021 2:00 PM to 4:00 via Zoom. For Zoom Connections contact the All Saints Parish office at 410 257-6306 or by e mail and the sign in info will be sent to you.
The discussion will compare the impact of race and economics in Calvert County when the colonial brick church at Maryland Routes 2 & 4 was built, to the impact of race and economics in the present day.
It will be introduced by a presentation based on the research and analysis of Professor Larry Hunt, leading to a conversation facilitated by the Community Mediation Center of Calvert County.
The discussion series is open to everyone in Calvert County, and will be conducted in four segments spaced at two months intervals. Discussions will be on Zoom and in the colonial brick church at the intersection of Maryland Routes 2 & 4. Each Discussion will begin with a presentation of about an hour to provide a common basis for the following hour of discussion facilitated by the Community Mediation Center of Calvert County.

It's official! The Calvert Arts Festival has been officially scheduled for October 9, 2021.

With the focus on the health and safety of our volunteers, artisans, and guests; we have decided to hold the 2021 Calvert Arts Festival this year from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, October 9th. We feel that as more people get vaccinated and the infection numbers continue to drop, we can do this by adhering to all national, state, as well local guidelines, including those put forward by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland.
Mark your calendars now for the 13th Annual Calvert Arts Festival this fall. More information coming soon!

A note about the Little Free Pantry. *Updated* No bread items, please. A lot of bread had to be thrown away as it was already visibly moldly and out of date. If it is full when you bring a donation please don't leave any food on top of the cabinet. Animals can and have found it and made a mess. Leave your donation in the church if it's full and we'll see that it gets added as supplies get low. Thanks.
PLEASE NOTE AND RESPECT
Parish buildings are not open now. Only individuals specifically authorized for an essential service may be in them (e.g., Heartfelt food packing). Those authorized individuals must wear masks, must practice social distancing and must sanitize touch areas as they enter and as they leave. This is not a matter of personal choice and applies to everyone including volunteers, business suppliers, and contract personnel. If you note a deviation, you may politely remind the individual. If you are not comfortable doing that or doing so doesn’t correct the problem, please contact a church officer. A sign in sheet Is at each entrance. Please fill it out with your name, date and time in/out of the parish hall. Thank you.
