Opening of the School Year Mass
Our Opening of the School Year Mass will be held Sunday, August 20 at 11:00am.  All families are encouraged to attend, and students are asked to wear their school uniform.  The Mass will be held at St. Benedict Church.  This is a beautiful way to welcome in the new school year together in prayer and thanksgiving!
Fall Cleanup Day

Come help us get the school ready before the first day of school! Bring your work clothes, gloves and tools on August 19th (9am-noon) to help clean up the school grounds. This is a great opportunity to take care of some volunteer hours before the school year even starts.

Oktoberfest Volunteers Needed!
The 13th Annual St. Benedict Oktoberfest is coming up Sept. 15-17, 2017.  Many, many hands are needed to make this event successful, and we ask you to please consider volunteering as much as you possibly can!!  The volunteer website is now LIVE and ready for you to sign up! Don't forget - the earlier you sign up, the better the selection of times and locations available. As you know, this event raises vital dollars our parish needs to support our school.  Click here to volunteer.

Young men and women between the ages of 12 and 17 are wanted to be volunteers at Oktoberfest and wear German folk costumes.  The costumes are provided and the girls will wear dirndls (full-skirted dresses with apron) and boys will wear lederhosen (leather shorts).  Your duties will include selling Oktoberfest merchandise, gingerbread hearts, cookies and fudge, helping with the chicken dance and assisting sponsors.  It's a great volunteer opportunity that helps our school and parish and it is lots of fun!   For more information, call Katie Toomey at  804-218-1071 or email her at  Toomeyland@aol.com.
New Students
Please remember that we need a copy of the birth certificate for all new students no later than Book Day (August 21). We encourage you to do this before Book Day if possible.  The copy can be mailed, scanned and emailed, or dropped off at the school office to the attention of Pam Autry, our school secretary.
Book Day Forms
The new school web site is up and running!  Come check it out at www.saintbenedictschool.org.  Under the SCHOOL LIFE tab click on " Parents" and you can view the page with Handbooks and Forms.  Please review this page and make sure you have all necessary forms completed for Book Day.
School Lunch
This year families will have the option of ordering lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting in September.  More information and an opportunity to order lunches will be available on Book Day.  On days when school lunch is not an option, all students must bring a lunch from home.

Other News
Nurse's Corner:  All students need to be up to date with immunizations and physicals.  If your child needs an emergent medication, they will not be permitted to attend school until the clinic has this medication.  Please turn in the physician-signed forms and medications on book day.  The Commonwealth of Virginia health forms (including physical examination) can be found here.
Floor Care
This year our school has made the decision to contract with a new cleaning company.  The care for our beautiful terrazzo floors will be a little different.  The floors have been stripped of the wax that was previously used.  In the future, they will simply be polished in line with the original design of the floors.  The new care will also help us be a little more environmentally friendly since we will no longer be using chemicals on the floors.
