Mobile Shofar Unit

Two years ago we saw the launch of our Mobile Shofar Unit.

For his Bar Mitzvah project, David Lazarus visited our homebound members so they could hear the sound of the Shofar. Last year he took his show on the road to perform the mitzvah in the open air to any who wished to hear it.

He now plans to continue this mitzvah for us again!
This year again in the open air!

Please contact Gary Lazarus to set up your appointment.
The High Holidays are approaching and, with them, a wonderful opportunity for spiritual growth. The Shofar Project 5781 is a free program open to all who want to make this a year of continued awakening, responsiveness, renewal, and transformation.

Presented in partnership with an inspiring, multi-denominational coalition of organizations, The Shofar Project will take place during the Hebrew month of Elul, a traditional period for spiritual reflection, introspection, and moral accounting (August 8 - September 6). Because the upcoming year is a Shemitah, or sabbatical year, this year’s Shofar Project will focus in particular on release: of our control of our planet and other human beings, as well as habits of mind and behavior that create an unjust society.

Community Events and Announcements
The Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans celebrated the successful return of Super Sunday on August 1, 2021 at the Goldring-Woldenberg Jewish Community Campus in Metairie.
The Federation staff were joined by 64 volunteers (both in person and at home) to reach out to members of our community to strengthen and support the 2021 Annual Campaign – which supports numerous community synagogues, agencies, and organizations.
This remarkable day brought in $120,000 in gifts in support of our community.
If you didn’t get a chance to make a gift or pledge and would like to be a part of the 2021 Annual Campaign please visit or call the Federation at 504-780-5605 – and make an impact TODAY.
Now more than ever it is EVEN more important to support Federation’s Annual Campaign. The Jewish Federation’s work is essential to sustaining our Jewish community—and during these uncertain times, Federation’s mission to secure a safe and thriving New Orleans Jewish community for future generations is still just as important today as it has always been.
Be a part of the 2021 Annual Campaign. Make your gift and make your impact. Because now it is even more important.
Jewish music is, broadly, music of and by Jewish people. It can be religious or secular. Some of this music dates to Biblical times, and other music has originated in every time and place Jews have lived. And, of course, Jewish music has been influenced by others who live among or around Jews. Jewish music also has influenced broader culture.

Join Hadassah New Orleans to explore the world of Jewish Music in a 6-part series on Sunday afternoons from July 11 – August 15. All programs will take place via Zoom from 4 until 5 p.m., and they are free to all who register.
The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience is now open to the public, six days a week, 10:00am to 5:00pm (closed Tuesdays).
You may purchase tickets in advance or at the door.
