Ramadan Journal Series

Reflecting on Ourselves and Our Community

By Nawal Ali

Ramadan is a time of renewal—a chance to cleanse not only our hearts but also our

communities. As we fast, pray, and seek closeness to Allah, we must also reflect on the state of

the Muslim Ummah.

This Ramadan, we invite you to engage with us in a Journal Series that transcends personal

reflection. Each week, we’ll pose a deep, thought-provoking question—not just about our

individual paths, but about our shared responsibility as a community. Take a moment to reflect,

submit your response through the link, and you may see your answer featured in our next

newsletter.

These questions may not be easy, but Ramadan is a time for growth and reflection. It's an

opportunity to look within and engage in honest conversations about the changes we can make.

We encourage you to reflect, journal, and share your thoughts with us.

Stay tuned for our first question!

Spring Camps 2024 - Journey After Death

The Journey After Death theme will take a deep dive into what happens after we leave this world. Inspired by Sheikh Omar Suleiman's Judgment Day series, we’ll explore the stages of the soul’s journey. We’ll cover death, the grave, the Day of Judgment, and our eternal home. This theme connects to the Hadith of the Prophet SAW: “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler.” (Sahih al-Bukhari). It’s a reminder that this life is temporary and our real goal is what comes next. While some parts of this topic might feel heavy, we’ll also focus on Allah’s mercy, the rewards of the righteous, and the hope that comes with striving to be better. This camp will be about understanding the hereafter while learning how to live a meaningful and purposeful life today.

 HIRA Intensive 2025 is here!

This year's HIRA Intensive course will be held July 6-27, 2025 in Flint, Michigan. The Beloved Prophet (s) retreated to the Cave of Hira as a place of solitude to reflect upon himself and build his relationship with his Creator. From studying tafsir and fiqh to understanding who our Creator is, who His Prophet (s) is, and who we are, this program aims to equip the youth of today with the knowledge and skills to navigate the modern world around them.

Enjoining Good and Forbidding Wrong

By Nana Firman

The Qur’an urges us to walk gently on earth, “The true servants of the Most Compassionate are those

who walk on the earth humbly” (Qur’an 25:63). This verse emphasizes doing the least amount of damage to the environment in our lifetime. Hence, in my humble understanding, caring for the environment and protecting it from harm is an obligation (fard) for us, both individually (fard al-‘ayn) as well as collectively (fard al-kifayah). As a Muslim, I am bound by a moral imperative to treat our shared common home with the care and respect it deserves. More importantly, the values and principles established by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) that invite doing good (ma’ruf), forbid wrong action (munkar), and practice moderation (i’tidal), have already shown us the way to take real actions.
