DIRECTOR'S REPORT

Students are in the final days of signing up for courses for next year and we hope band will be a part of their schedules. Here is a slide deck we shared with students in class this week for your reference. Academic demands and pressures are real, with always important required courses, the want for multiple AP classes and additional courses towards professional pathways. For most of our students, music is not a professional path they are pursuing. With all of this in mind, band as an elective can fall near the bottom of the priority list when confronted with these scheduling challenges.

We hope there is room for a class like band that gives students a much needed mental and physical break in their day. Music asks a lot of their cognitive and emotional development but does not demand testing and studying and stress. The atmosphere in each band class works to promote teamwork, safe risk taking and critical thinking-all skills that colleges and the workforce are eagerly wanting from the next generation of leaders.

Thanks for your time in reading this message. We care for each of the kids in our ensembles and hope to continue teaching them next year.
