TEACHER KUDOS: FLEXIBILITY
|
|
We would like to proudly recognize preschool teacher
Lindsey Crumpacker
(pictured second from left above) for receiving the January Staff Award for
FLEXIBILITY
.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you:
I love camping, hiking and anything outdoors
Favorite emoji:
Definitely this guy
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Who was the most inspiring teacher you had and why:
(I may be a little biased) but the most inspiring teacher I had was my mom. She was my preschool and pre-k teacher. All throughout my life, I watched as she consistently went above and beyond for her students. She seeks new ways to engage her students to help them be the best they can be, and she always did the same for me. She was the one who made me fall in love with teaching.
One thing you cannot resist: I
ce cream
Advice to an aspiring teacher:
As a new teacher myself, I need to constantly remind myself that things don't have to be perfect. Sometimes, the lesson you planned doesn't go the way you thought, or the craft is a total failure, but even in those moments we can teach our students and through these moments we learn for the better. Consistently showing up, loving these kids and believing in them is worth so much more than a perfectly executed activity.
If you had a super power it would be:
Making my house clean itself with a snap of a finger!
"Smarts' Sentiments" by Brit Smart
Lindsey Crumpacker has an outstanding work ethic which is rooted in her flexibility and positive attitude. Life of preschool teacher can be chaotic. It’s not what unplanned event will occur each day, but when. Through it all, Lindsay remains positive and focused on working for the benefit of her students. She rolls with the punches and remains committed to the mission no matter what is thrown her way. Lindsay epitomizes flexibility in her daily commitment to Oak Hill Academy.

Speechless: Different by Design
|
|
Faculty and staff were treated to a presentation last week by the senior curator of the Dallas Museum of Art, Sarah Schleuning (who also happens to be an Oak Hill parent). She shared her personal story about the origin of her most recently curated exhibition.
Speechless: Different by Design
is an installation of multisensory, interactive experiences for people of all abilities. The project was highly influenced by her son, who is mostly nonverbal, and his struggles to communicate. Created in collaboration with designers, scholars, practitioners and scientists,
Speechless
presents an opportunity to discover new perspectives through communications -- beyond speech and words. It features commissioned work by seven artists, several of whom have disabilities themselves. This fascinating sensory and perceptual experience runs through Sunday, March 22 at the Dallas Museum of Art. (Photo credit above: Vernon Bryant,

January Social Scoop
Although people often refer to children’s behaviors as “appropriate/inappropriate” or “good/bad” we prefer to use “expected” and “unexpected” because they don’t elicit an emotional judgment. Each situation or environment has a set of “hidden rules” that dictate what is expected of us. Unexpected behaviors give other people “uncomfortable thoughts” while, “expected behaviors” give people “comfortable thoughts.” Each classroom is its own society with its own set of hidden rules, and each family is its own society with its own set of rules and values.
Learn more about how we are help our students behave in a way that gives others comfortable thoughts.
