ISNA Calls for Peace and Condemns Violence Against Medical Workers in Gaza

Date: April 8, 2025

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) condemns the continued violence in Palestine and the recent attack on medical aid workers in Rafah, Gaza, where at least 15 individuals were killed while trying to assist those in need. Among the dead was 21-year-old Mohammad, calling his dad for help while getting shot. This incident, which saw emergency vehicles and ambulances clearly displaying their lights and markings targeted by Israeli forces, raises grave concerns about the protection of humanitarian workers under international law. In another strike on April 3, dozens of people, including children, were killed in a school-turned-shelter. Israel has now stopped aid from entering Gaza for over a month. The latest death toll stands at 62,614 Palestinians killed since October 7, 2023.

The most recent killings of these brave healthcare professionals and others represent a tremendous loss to the humanitarian efforts in Gaza and are unacceptable under any circumstances.

We urge the Trump Administration, the United Nations, and relevant global organizations to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into this tragedy and other recent incidents of violence against civilians and humanitarian workers. Accountability for these actions is crucial to upholding the principles of international humanitarian law and to ensuring that such horrific events do not recur.

ISNA calls on the United States, the United Nations, and the international community to advocate for an end to the violence in Palestine and to work towards achieving lasting peace. This cannot come to pass without a commitment to justice, accountability, and protecting all individuals, regardless of their background, during conflicts.

We stand in solidarity with the victims and all those affected by this ongoing violence and reaffirm our commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of human rights for all people in the region.

Spring Camps 2025 - Journey After Death

Last Couple Days to Register!

The Journey After Death theme will take a deep dive into what happens after we leave this world. Inspired by Sheikh Omar Suleiman's Judgment Day series, we’ll explore the stages of the soul’s journey. We’ll cover death, the grave, the Day of Judgment, and our eternal home. This theme connects to the Hadith of the Prophet SAW: “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveler.” (Sahih al-Bukhari). It’s a reminder that this life is temporary and our real goal is what comes next. While some parts of this topic might feel heavy, we’ll also focus on Allah’s mercy, the rewards of the righteous, and the hope that comes with striving to be better. This camp will be about understanding the hereafter while learning how to live a meaningful and purposeful life today.

Rooted in Revelation - Embodying the Quran’s Message in Every Step

The Quran isn’t just meant to be recited, it’s meant to be lived. The Prophet SAW was described as a "walking Quran," and as his followers, we are called to embody its message in our actions, character, and daily decisions. This camp will focus on applying the Quran’s lessons to real lifestrengthening our faith, improving our relationships, and making ethical choices. Through reflection, discussion, and action, we’ll explore how to turn the Quran’s guidance into a lived reality. It’s time to live by the Quran, not just in words, but in every step.

Muslims vs. Overconsumption

How Islamic Guidelines Help Muslims Reduce Waste and Spend Mindfully

By Anmol Irfan

Mar/Apr 25

Each passing day brings new trends that revolve around the latest must-haves and the newest versions of everything we need to own right now. It’s not just limited to one category either. There are countless articles and social media posts dedicated to kitchen, bathroom, travel, and car essentials, and more. Such items are hardly ever “essentials” but merely things that would be nice to have. The need to just have more of anything is slowly becoming ingrained in our lives.

Muslim Students Bring Halal Food Service to College Campuses

Don’t Just Wish for It, Work for It, and Keep It Going

By Naazish YarKhan

Mar/Apr 25

In November 2024, Northwestern University made waves among its Muslim students when sophomore Nur Yalinbas spotted bacon labeled as “halal” in the dining hall. Green Corner

Reflecting on greening after Ramadan – Food, Waste, Water usage, Energy Consumption

Let us refreshen our Tawwakul and make our outward actions reflect balance (Mizan) and save Earth’s resources and communities by first, “form a green team,” which will lend to rethinking and reducing our carbon and ecological footprint - reduce, recycle, repair, refurbish, as follows:

Water:

a) Do not use plastic water bottles, use TAP water or filtered tap water with own cup

b) Bring your own bottle

c) Wudu: minimize water usage emphasizing posters of prophetic practice of performing the entire wudu from a bowl the size of two-hands full or 1 mudd (approx 500-700ml) - he warned against excess in performing ablution (israf).

d) Replace existing water fountain in Masjid to a “water bottle filtered refill station”

e) Use an energy star dishwasher in lieu of handwashing.

f) Make a rain garden/rainwater harvest for toilet grey water usage

g) Convert garbage to soil (compost).

h) Use energy star plumbing fixtures-faucets and toilets.

Waste:

a) Best: Bring your own real plates and utensils.

b) Styrofoam free-Iftar. Use alternative paper products instead of styro-foam products.

c) Minimize food production in breaking fast during Ramadan Iftar’s.

d) Serve food to guests at Masjid Iftar to limit food waste

e) Have a recycled Bin at Masjid managed by your ‘Masjid Green Team.’

Earth/Food:

a) Limit food prepared dishes at iftar events.

b) Eat healthy cooked foods and abstain from fast foods

c) Kutbah: Ramadhan is not about food but rethinking

d) Build a vegetable garden: ground, raised or container

e) Plant a garden or potted plant. Ramadan is a good time to plant trees and vegetable gardens at home and the mosque. Start growing some of your own food and remember that planting a tree is a charity.

Energy:

a) Light bulbs: LED bulbs or Energy efficient/Energy Star fixtures

b) Plumbing fixtures: Energy efficient/Energy Star water fixtures – faucets and toilets.

c) Use sensors at faucets.

d) Use sensors at light switches for all rooms.

e) Solar panel/PV panels at roof for energy usage to offset electricity bill

f) Offsite Wind/Solar power as an alternative energy source for electrical energy offset by using green certificates for renewable energy use.

g) Do a green audit of your Masjid by a professional
