MARCH 27, 2026

SAINTS AND SCHOLARS

March bears the quiet fruit of diligence and discipline. We honor the students of Saint Mary School who have attained High Honor Roll and Honor Roll. Their work reflects a love of truth, a pursuit of excellence, and the formation of both mind and soul. Ad multos annos—may they continue to grow in wisdom and virtue.

FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Saint Mary School Families,

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday which begins the holiest week of the year for Christians. The liturgical rhythm of the week focusses our attention on the reason God took on human flesh. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, the Church offers us a series of dramatic encounters through liturgical rituals that have been a part of its history since the actual events transpired nearly 2000 years ago. They are extraordinarily rich and beautiful, and effective in engaging our minds and hearts with the infinitely deep mystery of God's sacrificial love.

Instead of trying to describe what it's like to experience the transformative journey of Holy Week, I invite you to try it for yourself. I know the struggle of making the time and space in life for such a big commitment. But I also know the extraordinary personal impact of walking through Holy Week with a mind and heart open to God's grace. Not only does it contain answers to the mysteries humanity has grappled with for ages, it also contains the healing salve for the wounds inflicted upon us by a broken world.

This Holy Week, the Father is calling; Jesus is ready to show you the way; and the Holy Spirit is beckoning you to know the joy of a life lived transformed by God's grace.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parents of Saint Mary School,

Since last October, I have had the great joy of gathering for dinner with young moms and dads with babies from our parish. The purpose of these evenings was simply to listen and to see how we as a parish, and I as their pastor, can better minister to our young families. What has come from these gatherings has been very encouraging, as these young families have begun to come together to grow in their relationship with the Lord and with one another. I would like to invite all young moms and dads to an Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 12th, beginning with the 10:00 a.m. Mass, followed by brunch. I hope you can join us. As I keep saying at Mass, we love babies at Saint Mary’s.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Jeff Kegley

Pastor

LUNCH MENU

CLASSICAL MUSINGS

In the not-too-distant past nearly everyone who attended a Catholic school or CCD class knew the answer to the following question by heart; “why did God make me?” All together now; “God made me to know, love, and serve Him in this world and be happy with Him forever in the next.”  Thank you to the Baltimore Catechism, we know this simple answer. It is to the point and easily remembered. A Catholic education equips students to change the world, not by engaging in power games, but by being who Christ has called them to be. It is not just about learning skills for the job market. It is first and foremost about learning what matters, what is valuable, and becoming the person who can be part of God’s work on earth.

Brett Salkeld in his book Educating for Eternity, makes a poignant observation: “A person who knows all kinds of things but has no idea how to integrate that knowledge into a life well lived is not educated. An educated person has a framework within which to put his knowledge into work, to make sense of the world, to set priorities, and to make decisions. A Catholic education prepares people for success in the world, though not always in the ways the world measures success.  But more than that, an authentic Catholic education forms people who can change the world, not despite their desire for God and their hope for heaven, but because of it.” p. 27

That seems to say it all.

As we approach Holy Week, beginning on April 2nd, we are reminded of the profound significance this sacred time holds within our Catholic education at Saint Mary School. Holy Week is a precious opportunity for us to deepen our faith while embracing the mission of our school, which beautifully intertwines faith and reason.

We warmly invite all families to participate in the various school activities and rituals that celebrate this meaningful week, as together we foster a strong community spirit rooted in love and devotion. We encourage parents to reflect on the importance of spiritual development during this time, as it aligns with our commitment to not only academic excellence but also to nurturing moral growth in our students. Let us embrace this time as a chance to strengthen family bonds and deepen our faith, echoing the holistic development approach that defines Saint Mary School. We suggest engaging in family prayers, sharing reflections on the significance of the week, and participating in school events designed to celebrate the journey of faith.
