Ice Cream Wars Explode at Nicolas Creamery as Saint Mary School Takes the Scoop!

Saint Mary School students turned Nicolas Creamery into a battlefield of flavors during the annual Ice Cream Wars fundraiser. Everyone walked away sticky and happy!

FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Saint Mary School Families,

What a truly sweet week it has been at Saint Mary School! The energy, laughter, and spirit of togetherness filled our halls and hearts as our students dove headfirst into the delicious chaos of Ice Cream Wars at Nicolas Creamery and our annual Cupcake Wars—watching teams battle it out with sprinkles, frostings, and creative toppings was pure joy and a wonderful reminder of the creativity and teamwork that define our school.

At the same time, our thoughtful reflections and activities during the Week in Lent grounded us in faith, kindness, and gratitude, beautifully balancing fun with purpose and showing how even our “sweet” moments can lift us up spiritually.

Thank you to every student, teacher, parent, and volunteer who made this week so memorable—your enthusiasm turned simple treats into lasting memories.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parents of Saint Mary School,

I often say that Saint Mary School is central to the mission of Saint Mary Parish. The Church teaches us that the parish exists to evangelize. But what does evangelization mean? Evangelization is the joyful proclamation of Jesus Christ helping our children not only to know about Him, but to know Him personally, to love Him deeply, and to follow Him faithfully. It is forming hearts and minds in the truth of the Gospel so that our students become disciples who live their faith with courage and joy. Every lesson taught, every prayer offered, every act of charity lived within our school is part of this sacred mission to lead souls to Christ.

The beautiful fruit of this mission was on display last Sunday as our parish community celebrated the Rite of Election. Two of our Saint Mary School students, Markus Elatab (8th grade) and Lilianna Elatab (6th grade), signed the Book of the Elect and will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. What a powerful witness to the grace of God at work in our school and parish! We joyfully congratulate Markus and Lilianna and thank all who have assisted them on their spiritual journey, especially Mr. Chris Pfirrman and Deacon Christ McNicholas who have the honor of being their godparents/sponsors.  Parents, thank you for entrusting your children to us and for partnering in this sacred work. Keep evangelizing beginning in your homes and continuing through the life of our parish and school.

With prayers for each of your families,

Father Jeff Kegley

Pastor

CLASSICAL MUSINGS

Sometimes the simplest questions are the most baffling. it is far easier to try and understand greater and more complex issues and questions. Such as, have you ever thought about what people are for? And following closely behind, what is an education for? As you ponder those, it might help to realize that they are closely related. It is a fact that education is never neutral. It is always oriented toward a result, a goal. That goal invariably includes people and their purpose. Another way of stating this is that every education presumes an anthropology. Education is guided by underlying attitudes about the human person.

Modern culture states that we are made for the state and the economy. Somehow that seems like a shallow reason for existence. But traditional Catholic Christian vision of the human person (anthropology) is that we are not made for the economy or the state, or for anything else, we are made for God.  Catholic schools and a Catholic education need to be built upon the premise that people are for God. This doesn’t deny the importance of anything else but puts them in the right order. If this is our worldview, then how is our education ordered? Stay tuned...
