ST. JOHN XXIII!!

It has been a spectacular, once in a lifetime week for all of us at Roncalli High School as we celebrated the canonization of our beloved namesake, Angelo Cardinal Roncalli (Pope John XXIII).

Thank you to everyone who prayed for our students, teachers and administrators that were in Rome last week for the canonization. Here is a link to some of the pictures that were taken of the group while in Rome!

On Wednesday, Archbishop Joseph Tobin, celebrated a beautiful canonization thanksgiving mass here at RHS in our Family Room. Many folks in attendance commented it was the greatest day in the history of our school. It was a beautiful liturgy! The Spirit was very much a vibrant part of the day and the celebration. Here is a link to some of the pictures taken on this day.

“WE LOVE YOU FR. WILMOTH” VIDEO AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING

We thank everyone from all over the world who helped show their support for Fr. Wilmoth by participating in student council's #WeLoveFrWilmoth project. We received so many pictures and videos from Rebels all across the city, state, country and world that it was difficult to fit them all in! The video features a variety of Rebels, from the Rebel Band to Mrs. Toner's math classes to a variety of teams and clubs. Our alumni are well-represented as well, as groups gathered on campuses as close as IU and Marian and as far away as Harvard and the US Naval Academy! And of course, our south deanery parishes sent their love as well. We hope this video will continue to show Fr. Wilmoth the love and support he has behind him as he continues his cancer treatment. Please continue to share the video through social media, including the hashtag #WeLoveFrWilmoth. And above all, continue praying for Fr. Wilmoth's strong and swift recovery.

SENIOR COLE WALTERS FIVE STATE GREAT LAKES ARCHITECTURAL CHAMPION - ONE OF 10 NATIONAL FINALISTS!

Roncalli High School is proud to announce that RHS senior, Cole Walters, was informed this week that his entry in the 2014 National Women in Construction Architectural Drafting and Design Competition has been named the first place winner in the five states Great Lakes Region. He receives a $300 check for his winnings and his entry will now compete with nine other entries for the right to be named the 2014 National Champion!

Great job Cole; great job to his teacher as well, Jim Ratliff.

13 JUNIORS EARN NATONAL MERIT RECOGNITION!

We are thrilled to share with the RHS community that 13 members of the Class of 2015 recently received word that they scored high enough on their PSAT last October to earn the recognition of being a National Merit Scholar. This is the highest academic distinction that a student can earn at the national level and places them in the top 3% of the best and brightest high school students in the United States. We will not know until the fall which students’ scores qualify them as National Merit Semi-finalists (top 1%) and which students’ scores qualify them as National Merit Commended students (top 3%).

Congratulations to the following Rebel Scholars: Joseph Below, Matt Cunningham, Sarah Elam, Brian Hayden, Alex Kelley, Nicky Marino, Rachel McKay, Matt Payne, Nick Sayre, Noah Scheer, Adam Schubach, Oscar Thomas, and Abby Whalen!

Great job!!

She instituted and has led numerous German Club spring break trips to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. STARS PROGRAM SEEKING ADULT VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH SECOND SEMESTER EXAMS

Our award winning STARS program relies on adult volunteers to assist in the administration of over 400 exams for students whose accommodations call for a quiet testing location, oral reading of the exam to the student or possibly scribing answers for a student. This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity and a wonderful way to help our school and our students. Final exams will be administered from Tuesday through Friday, May 20-23. The first exam period each day begins at 7:30 AM and the second exam period begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 11:30 AM. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the STARS director, Pat Musgrave, a [email protected] by Friday, May 9th.

Thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.

STUDENTS WORKING THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY - NOTIFICATION NEEDED

Roncalli High School encourages its students to participate in the electoral process of our country. Students that wish to work the polls are not considered absent from school. If a student wishes to work the polls on Tuesday, May 6 they must pick up a form from Mrs. Avery in the attendance office, complete it, have it signed by a parent and return it to Mrs. Avery. They also will need to bring documentation back to school on Wednesday, May 7, from the candidate or precinct they worked for.

SUMMER MORATORIUM WEEK

As a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Roncalli High School must adhere to the moratorium week requirements set forth by the association. The 2014 Moratorium Week is from June 29 through July 6. At Roncalli this means there will be no open gym, no open facilities, no practices, games, rehearsals, etc. There are to be no student activities at all during this week. We hope this allows families to enjoy some quality time together.

SENIOR PARENTS - WHAT TO DO WITH THOSE UNIFORM SHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS & PULLOVERS

As has been tradition for many years the seniors will be out of uniform for the last four weeks of their high school career. This began last Monday. Seniors must dress appropriately and modestly at all times. Should a senior fail to comply with these requirements he/she will be required to go back into school uniform. We ask for parental support in making sure your senior student is wearing appropriate clothing to school.

The school encourages seniors to donate their uniform shirts, sweatshirts, pants and pullovers back to Roncalli if they are in good, usable condition. We make this clothing available to our students and families receiving financial aid. It is also used by our parents that work at Victory Field and Lucas Oil Stadium as a part of our Future Family Foundations. This has been greatly appreciated in the past by these families. Your support in making this possible again this year by donating your usable shirts, sweatshirts, pants and pullovers would be greatly appreciated.

COCKTAILS AND CHEMO FUNDRAISER

All in the Roncalli Family are invited to attend a fundraiser for RHS alum, Amanda (Evans) Clark (’02) and her family. It is on Saturday May 10, at St. Roch Gym. Amanda's husband Joe was diagnosed with cancer more than 2 years ago. Now the family faces a new challenge as Joe continues to battle stage 4 colon cancer and prepares for the possibility of leaving behind his young wife and their newborn daughter, Mira (short for Miracle). The purpose of this fundraiser is to remind them how many people care and are praying for them as well as help raise much needed funds to offset the increasing costs associated with cancer.

It is a fun taste-style event, much like the annual Taste of Chicago, where guests will nosh on the very best local food from in and around Indy. There will be several different local bands playing, including 3rd Generation and Zack Salaz, a silent auction, among other fun activities. Please consider joining us and supporting Amanda and Joe and their family!

WHERE WILL YOUR FAMILY BE IN 20 YEARS?

In 1993, AT&T was uncannily accurate. Great business strategy. But how about a 20 year plan for your family? Your kids will be grown and gone. You will most likely be a grandparent. And you will be looking back over your life wondering how time flew so fast. Put yourself in a great position by implementing these 10 ways to plan for your family 20 years from now.
