From Our Principal
November: The Month of Our Good Friends in Purgatory
Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. As a reminder of our duty to pray for the suffering faithful in Purgatory, the Church has dedicated the month of November to the Holy Souls. The Holy Souls are those who have died in the state of grace, but who are not yet free from all punishment due to their unforgiven venial sins and all other sins already forgiven for which satisfaction is still to be made. They are certain of entering Heaven, but first they must suffer in Purgatory. The Holy Souls cannot help themselves because for them the night has come, when no man can work (John 9:4). It is our great privilege of brotherhood that we can shorten their time of separation from God by our prayers, good works, and, especially, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.  Take time this month to remember your departed loved ones and offer your prayers, good works, sufferings, and especially, the Mass, for their sanctification. And don't forget to ask them for their help and intercessions - because that is their work now - to help you and your loved ones to lead good and holy lives, and to one day, return to your eternal Home. Here's a link to a beautiful 9-Day Novena for our loved ones and friends in Purgatory
Parent Teacher Conferences 2018
Conferences are planned for Thursday, November 8th 4pm-7pm and Friday, November 9th 7:30am-12:00pm. Parent-Teacher Conferences are not required but are encouraged, especially for students having difficulty in some aspect of their education. For elementary students, we encourage all parents to schedule a conference with your child's homeroom teacher. Middle school parents do not need to meet with every teacher, only those with whom they feel time is needed. If your child is doing well in all courses and you do not have any concerns, you do not need to schedule a conference. Specials (elective) teachers are not part of the Parent-Teacher Conference days. If you have questions, please call Pam Autry at (804) 254-8850. The Sign Up Genius will close tonight, Tuesday, November 6th. Click  HERE  to sign up!

Grandparent's & Grandfriends Day is Friday, November 16; 9 am - 12:30 pm

Invitations were mailed last week.  We can't wait to meet all of our special guests! Please make sure your child's grandparent/grandfriend sends in their RSVP by November 13th to: rsvp@saintbenedictschool.org or call 804-254-8850. If you intend for your child to go home after Mass with their grandparent/grandfriend, please make sure YOU fill out a permission slip/letter stating the person who will be picking up your child from Church. No dismissals can occur without permission slips on file.

Congratulations Honor Roll Students!

Calling all creative parents!

If you have a creative hobby you enjoy such as painting, wood working, design, sculpture or photography, the PTO is looking for you!

We are in need of two parents per grade level to work with their class and the art teacher to create this year’s Gala Class Projects.

These parents will share their creative talents with the kids and work closely with the art teacher throughout the year.

The Gala art projects are always a hit during the live auction and generate proceeds that help our school. Please email Jennifer Eschbach at to sign up!

Classroom Reps Needed:
PTO classroom representatives are an important link between the PTO and the parents of students in each class. As a room rep you will act as a liaison between the PTO and teachers. Reps are still needed for 4th and 7th grades. Please email Jennifer Eschbach at to sign up!

New! Enrichment Reps:
This year we are looking for 1 parent per grade to fill the role as an Enrichment representative . Enrichment representative's primary responsibility is to encourage participation in fundraising events outside of school. Please email Jennifer Eschbach at to sign up!

Lunch Service:
It is now time for the 6th grade parent volunteers to take charge! There's nothing better than taking a mid-day break, and getting the chance to see your shining COMETS! Click HERE to sign up!
Interested in Becoming A Substitute Teacher?
Saint Benedict is looking for substitute teachers. Applicants should have their college degree and will have a background check performed as part of the application process. Please contact Sean Cruess at 804-254-8850 if you are interested. Thank you!
Canned Food Drive for Little Sisters! Yesterday our Student Council kicked off of its annual canned goods drive to benefit the Little Sisters of the Poor. The student council will be collecting any canned foods or non perishables until Monday, November 19th . (Please be sure to check those expiration dates on the cans first!) The homeroom with the largest percentage of items donated will be rewarded with an ice cream and cookie party compliments of the student council. Please remember those less fortunate during this time of Thanksgiving.

One of the Student Council projects is the collection of soda can tabs which we donate to The Ronald McDonald House on Monument Avenue.  This charity provides a place for families to stay while a loved one receives medical treatment in the area. Those pop tops can be sent to Mr. Cichocki's classroom.

Thank you for your support of the St. Benedict Student Council
