Parent-Teacher Conferences
Important deadline approaching! The deadline for scheduling Parent conferences is Wednesday at 12 noon. Please sign up using Sign-up Genius. Parent-Teacher Conferences are not required but are encouraged, especially for students having difficulty in some aspect of their education. For elementary students, we encourage all parents to schedule a conference with your child's homeroom teacher. Middle school parents do not need to meet with every teacher, only those with whom they feel time is needed. If your child is doing well in all courses and you do not have any concerns, you do not need to schedule a conference. Specials (elective) teachers are not part of the Parent-Teacher Conference days. Please contact them directly if you would like to set up a time to meet. Please sign up for available conference times here.
Middle School Computer Policy
Access to a computer with internet and a word processing program is required for all middle school students. Middle school students must be able to do online research, type and print papers, and access online classroom resources from home for many of their classes. Using a library computer with a flash drive to save work is acceptable when there is no computer in the home.

Grandparent's Day

Grandparents Day is fast approaching: Friday, November 17! 
Please, please, please, remind your child’s grandparents to RSVP for this event by November 13, by phone, 804 254 8850, or email, rsvp@saintbenedictschool.org  
Letters from grandparents who cannot attend are also due by November 13.
Invitations were mailed last week and extras are at the front desk. 

Here’s what all our grandparents and parents need to know about that day: 

The days starts at 8:30a.m with a light continental breakfast and welcome, followed by classroom visits, Mass, and the school Veterans’ Day Tribute.

Grandparents can take the student home from the Church after the Mass; they do not need to return to the school.  The students must have a permission slip from the student’s parents on file at the school (which includes the name of grandparent the child will be going with) no later than Wednesday, November 15, and they will be signed out at the Church.

The 12:30 dismissal is for students going home early with grandparents only
All other students will stay for a 1:30 dismissal and will need to bring lunch.

It is important that you share this information with your child and their grandparents.

Retreat for Married Couples
On Saturday, November 11, from 9:00am to 12:30pm, the parish will host a retreat for married couples titled “You Have Kept the Good Wine Until Now” (John 2:10). This event will help couples to savor their relationship and appreciate their unique calling from God. Childcare will be provided. Couples are asked to RSVP to Rob Hamrick rhamrick@saintbenedictparish.org , Director of Evangelization and Catechesis.  The cost is $10.00 per couple. Registration with coffee and doughnuts will be at 8:30am; the retreat will begin at 9:00am.
Voter Education Materials
TODAY, November 7, Virginians will elect their governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. To help voters prepare for these elections the Virginia Catholic Conference has released its 2017 voter education materials. The Conference has compiled three separate side-by-side comparisons of the positions of candidates for state offices. Conference staff compiled Know the Positions of the Candidates for Governor, Know the Positions of the Candidates for Lieutenant Governor, and Know the Positions of the Candidates for Attorney General from policies, public statements, official campaign websites, party platforms and other sources. The Conference, which represents Virginia’s bishops on public policy matters, neither supports nor opposes candidates for public office. As they consider these races and also local House of Delegates races, voters are encouraged to turn to the wisdom of the Catholic Church as they form their consciences by consulting the Four Principles of Catholic Social Teaching. These materials can be found www.vacatholic.org. Spanish translations are also available.
JESUS WAS A TEENAGER TOO! (though perfect)
You are invited to come to a special presentation by Catholic Psychologist Dr. William T. McKenna, on Wednesday November 15 th .
You will not want to miss this evening which will give you deeper insight about your
teenager(s). The evening will take place in the library of the St. Benedict school.
Light refreshments will be provided beginning at 6:30pm and the presentation with begin at 6:45pm with time for Q & A, ending by 7:45pm.
This event is for parents only , children and teens are not allowed to attend. Children ages k-12 may attend our parish’s religious education this evening.
For planning purposes, kindly RSVP to me by Tuesday Nov. 14, if you plan to attend.
Upcoming Events at Saint Gertrude High School
Thursday, November 16 is Visitors' Day at Saint Gertrude High School. It's going to be another fun event and we encourage all 8th grade girls to register to visit for the day.  Please arrive no later than 8:15 AM to meet your hostess as our day will begin with Morning Gathering at 8:20 AM. Lunch will be provided and we conclude the day with an SGHS Talent Show and dismissal at 2 PM.  You can register at  www.saintgertrude.org/visitorsday.

Admission Testing We will again be using the OLSAT test for our Admission Testing. The testing dates are:  Saturday, December ​9​, Saturday, January ​6​, and Saturday, February ​3​. We will again invite parents to join us in our Board Room for refreshments and a short presentation and Q&A about Saint Gertrude while their daughter is testing. The test is in two parts: the OLSAT test is a timed 72 question , 40 minute aptitude test. The second part is an un-timed writing sample. You can register for testing at www.saintgertrude.org/admissions then click on Dates & Deadlines.
