WEEKLY NEWS
October 15, 2018
From Our Principal
This past Sunday at Mass we heard the verse from Hebrews 4:12, "The word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword." As parents, it is important for us to find ways to share Scripture with our kids. Hopefully we attend a church service each week, so children can hear the word of God proclaimed. Reading from Scripture could be part of our daily family prayer. Are there times that we can share Bible stories with our children, especially those that are really meaningful for us? Do we have children's Bible stories at home that our kids can pick up and read on their own? Can we incentivize or create games to encourage children to memorize fundamental Scripture verses? Remember the admonition of one of our House patrons, St. Jerome, "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ."

PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR PARENT'S WORKSHOP
Next Tuesday, Oct. 23, we have invited Dr. William McKenna to present a parents workshop on issues of anxiety and depression in children. Dr. William T. THIS Friday, October 19th  the Student Council will be sponsoring its first dance of the year for middle school students . The dance will run from 6:30pm until 8:30pm in St. Anslem Hall. The theme will be Halloween and the cost will be $5.00 per student unless you wear a costume, then you will receive a dollar discount.  Students are also asked to make a refreshment donation; 8th graders should bring a bag of candy, 7th graders should bring small individual bags of chips, and 6th graders should bring a two liter bottle of soda . There will also be a costume contest that night.

On Wednesday, October 24th , the student council will sponsor a Tag Day. In recognition of Cancer Awareness, we ask all those who will be participating in the tag day to wear pink. The cost for your chance to wear pink and your favorite jeans is only $2.00. The proceeds will go toward breast cancer awareness in the Richmond area. Let's "pink out" St. Benedict on the 24th.

On Saturday, October 27th  the PTO is having their annual Fall Fest. The Student Council will be selling recycled crayons that night. If you have pieces of crayons at home, we would love for you to send them to the school and we will take the pieces and create new crayons.  All crayon donations can be sent to Mr. Cichocki in the history classroom.

One of the Student Council projects is the collection of soda can tabs which we donate to The Ronald McDonald House on Monument Avenue.  This charity provides a place for families to stay while a loved one receives medical treatment in the area. Those pop tops can be sent to school where they will also be sent to Mr. Cichocki.

Thank you for your support of the St. Benedict Student Council
