Video Highlights from our 1st School Mass of the Year (Aug 24)
All are welcome to join us Friday mornings at 8:30am in the Church for School Mass! (See our September Mass Schedule at the bottom of this newsletter to see if your student or their class is singing, serving or reading).
From Our Principal
Our theme this year is a powerful verse from Saint Paul's letter to the Romans, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." It speaks to the struggle between good and evil in society and in our own lives. These choices cross our paths on a daily basis. When we're faced with unkindness, disrespect, hurt, or injustice, how do we respond? Jesus is our example, and Scripture is our guide.
House System Update: Class Prefects Selected
Last week, the students in grade K-7 voted for a House Prefect to lead each of our Houses. Congratulations to the following 8th grade students who were selected based on: responsibility, serving as role models for younger students, and representing the school both within the school community and without. We look forward to their leadership and the leadership of our entire 8th grade class!

Scantron Assessments Begin This Week
The Office of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Richmond is using Performance Series by Scantron again this year as a diagnostic instructional tool. Performance Series is a web-based, computer-adaptive assessment administered in grades 2–8, with the option for schools to add grade 1. The purpose of the assessment is to provide teachers with data to monitor students' academic growth and progress over time. As an instructional
tool, the data will be used by teachers to create and tailor instruction to meet the needs of all students throughout the school year. Click here for more information.
Have You Joined the Comet Campaign?
The Comet Campaign at Saint Benedict Catholic School is an opportunity for all of our families to show our children that 100% of our parents, teachers and staff are behind them! Your tax-deductible donation ensures that our children have excellent teachers, a classroom to be proud of and the opportunity to learn and practice their faith. We are a community of the faithful and as we begin our Centennial celebration in 2019, we look to you to continue our commitment to all of our children.

Band and Music Lessons
We believe that music is a very important part of a well-rounded education. A number of diocesan schools have partnered with the Greater Richmond School of Music to provide students with opportunities for Band (for students in grades 4-8) and private music lessons that the schools cannot offer on their own. For more information about these wonderful opportunities, please visit: https://grsm.net/grsm-st-benedict-catholic-school/ .
