Dear SPN Families,
What a festive Halloween parade and carnival we had yesterday! Thank you to those parents who could join us, to the PTG for providing coffee & donuts for parents, to the Student Leadership Council for organizing and running the carnival for the students, and to Room Parents and families who provided party treats for our classes!
Today we celebrate All Saints Day, honoring all of the holy women and men whose lives provide us examples of how to live like Jesus. Our 7th grade did a beautiful job of preparing the readings and petitions, and offering the gifts for our first all school Mass this year. We also appreciate our student choir who led us in lifting our voices in song and prayer. Finally, we had several students dress up as saints to help us remember that we, too, can be saintly in how we live our lives.
Recent news from the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association) reports significant performance and growth by Catholic schools nationwide. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), Catholic school students performed at or near the top percentile in reading and math compared to public schools coming out of the pandemic. NAEP is considered the most consistent measure of U.S. student achievement over time and a lens into student success.
The report also states that 90% of Catholic schools returned to in-person learning during the pandemic in comparison to 56% of public schools. Our SPN school community certainly is one Catholic school that was able to successfully navigate the pandemic through protocols and procedures that our faculty, staff, and families followed in order to provide a safe in-person learning environment. The efforts of the Diocese of Oakland, the SPN administration and staff, along with the cooperation of families, contributed greatly to the continued learning and development of our students over the past two years.
Thank you for trusting SPN, for contributing positively to our school community by supporting procedures, events, and fundraisers (remember the Annual Fund!), and for partnering with us to provide the best education possible for all of our children. We are all truly blessed and lucky.
Warmly,
Ms. Thomas
