Principal's Message

A Prayer for Our Election

Dear St. Philip Neri School Families and Friends,

With the Presidential Election just one week away, I share this prayer with you.

A Prayer for Leadership

    By Sr. Joan Chittister

Give us, O God,

leaders whose hearts are large enough

to match the breadth of our own souls

and give us souls strong enough

to follow leaders of vision and wisdom.

In seeking a leader, let us seek

more than development for ourselves—

though development we hope for—

more than security for our own land—

though security we need—

more than satisfaction for our wants—

though many things we desire.

We beg you, Great God,

give us the vision as a people

to know where global leadership truly lies,

to pursue it diligently,

to require it to protect human rights

for everyone everywhere.

Amen.

Peace & Blessings,

Ms. Thomas

Halloween, Thursday, October 31

Halloween is a special day at SPN. Students will come to school dressed in costumes with only appropriate make-up and accessories for school (i.e. NO gory, violent, excessively bloody masks or costumes; NO weapon accessories). Students may wear masks only during the Parade which will begin at 8:15 a.m., after Morning Assembly, and includes Preschool through Grade 8 walking around the neighborhood. Then students will return to the classrooms for the morning, and during that time each grade level will be assigned time to enjoy the Halloween Carnival with games and candy prizes prepared by our Student Leadership Council (SLC). All grade levels will also enjoy a Halloween party prepared by room parents, and it is a Minimum Day with Noon Dismissal for all. Share & Care will be available in the afternoon.

All Saints Day, Friday, November 1

Our 7th grade is hosting our first All School Mass for All Saints Day, 9:30 a.m. in Church, featuring our Student Choir and our Middle School Elective Choir. All are welcome. We also invite our students to dress up as a saint of his/her choice for our procession at the beginning of the Mass. We will interview those who dress up like saints to learn which saint they represent and what that saint is best known for or for what they are patrons.

Family Mass, Sunday, November 3, 9:00 A.M

Please join us this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Church for Family Mass hosted by the 5th and 6th Grades, featuring our Student Choir: the Knights of Columbus will serve donuts following the Mass.

Athletics Section

Our Volleyball and Boys Basketball teams have started practice with much anticipation for the upcoming season. Our Spirit Store is open 24/7 for your convenience and we have our first hosting date set for the opening weekend of games. For our hosting dates we have three games being played every hour with both teams from our school and teams from our league. Two Volleyball and one Basketball game happen at the same time and as you can imagine it takes a lot of help to have these days be a success.

We are asking parents to please volunteer for pen shifts to work. Jobs include, running a scoreboard, keeping score, selling entrance tickets, snack bar and set up/clean up. We really can not pull off these hosting days without the help of our community. It is a fantastic way to show our Spartan Spirit, see our teams in action and knock off some of those parent volunteer hours! Let's not forget families involved with sports have an additional FIVE hours to complete. So please sign up and we will see you out there! As always, any questions I am happy to help!
