Friendly student elves gave Santa a huge hand on Sunday!

Thank you for your help, Spartan Sprites!

Principal's Message

Dear families,

Last Sunday O’Brien Hall was full of festivity with a packed gathering for Breakfast with Santa. Spectacular student volunteers, plenty of parent volunteer cooks, decorators and clean up crew, and many happy families made for a very joyful celebration! Sincere thanks for making this event a tradition goes to Helen Bouras (Ahrens) whose youngest child, Melina, will graduate in June. PTG is looking for an enthusiastic committee of parents to take over this tradition from Helen who has copious notes and details on how to replicate this wonderful tradition. Please contact Emily Libby (emilylibby16@gmail.com) for information.

We are in our final days of preparation for our Christmas Concert on Thursday evening. All of the classes have worked diligently to provide a beautiful and meaningful performance that will certainly fill you with Christmas spirit. Please have students in their classrooms no later than 6:40 p.m. in holiday dress. The performance will run from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Church.

The Annual Fund campaign ended yesterday and we came so very close to reaching our goal with $48,343.00 collected! The class competition closed yesterday as well. Congratulations goes out to our 4th grade class who reached 100% family participation! Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 14th, the class will enjoy free dress, a pizza lunch and ice cream. We are grateful to the 58% of SPN families who supported this fundraising effort. We appreciate any and all contributions to this campaign which is designed to keep overall tuition costs lower for all families!!

Additionally, thank you all for supporting our Adopt-a-Family project with your donations of gifts to the elderly, a refugee family, and those less fortunate than us in our community. You have truly demonstrated Christ’s love for all people through your thoughtfulness and generosity!

Finally, on behalf of the faculty and staff of Saint Philip Neri Catholic School, we wish all of our families a very blessed, safe, and healthy Christmas and New Year!

Warmly,

Ms. Thomas

Principal

SPN Sports Write-Up

Hello Sports Fans!

It was another exciting weekend for SPN teams! We were hosting at Alameda Point Gym this past weekend so many of our teams had home games.

Here’s a quick run down:

For Girls Volleyball, the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams saw action. The 5th grade Green team kicked off the weekend with a straight set victory against Corpus Christi on Friday night. Not to outdone by their classmates, the White team followed with 2 straight set wins on Saturday against St. Joseph Pinole and Sunday against School of the Madeleine with all players contributing to the great team wins! Anais and June were selected by coach Matt as player of the match on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The 6th grade team continues to make progress but ultimately lost a tough match against St. Joseph Pinole. The 7th grade also had a tough match against St. Patrick Rodeo. After cruising to an easy first set, St. Patrick was able to force a decisive 3rd set where our Lady Spartans were able to gut out a 19-17 score to take home the victory. The day of Volleyball action concluded with the 8th grade team beating St. Joseph Pinole in straight sets.

On Saturday, December 3rd SPN 5th Grade Team Green beat St. Patrick Rodeo. Both teams had exciting returns, with a lot of great hustling from the opposing team, but SPN had 3 players with 5 serves in a row to result in a win! The 6th grade team overall did awesome, improving each game. Close matches but SJE won (Set 1: 15-25 SJE

Set 2: 21-25 SJE). Chiara Losk had 3 serves in a row in Set 1. Delilah Costy had 5 overhand servers in a row in Set 2. The 7th grade girls volleyball team won the Battle of Alameda game against SJE in 2 sets (25-18 and 25-16 SPN). It was an exciting win for them. We had lots of great support from the SPN community as well!

For the game on Sunday, Dec. 4th against St. John the Baptist, the girls played hard and did their best, but fell short of a win and lost to St. John in two sets (23-25 and 17-25).

For Boys Basketball, the 4th grade team kicked off the weekend of action with a win against St. Paul in the first SPN basketball game of the day. It was a great team win -congrats! The action continued with the 6th grade team. They ran into a tough opponent in St. Joes but fought hard and played amazingly as a team. Ultimately, their efforts didn’t result in a win but they continue to gel as a team and they gained some great experience. The 8th grade team ended the basketball action that day by rebounding with a victory (1st of the season) against St. Anthony after a tough loss against Corpus Christi the night before. The players made Coach Kirk very proud as the team executed on both ends of the floor. Ikaika scored the team high of 17 points. Tom caught fire in the second half and added 9 points from long range, channeling Steve Kerr to keep the pressure on St. Anthony. The team played great defense and shut down St. Anthony down the stretch to seal the game.

The previous week saw the 3rd grade SPN boys playing against their cross town rivals St. Joes! We saw great defense and incredible teamwork. All 10 boys had fun and played with purpose. Our stack play worked to perfection and we had a number of great looks under the basket that were converted. The hard work the team is putting in each week is paying off and we look forward to continuing success! (P.S. great job Jeff Croft and Spencer Tse on the great new uniforms. We looked sharp! ;) )

The 4th grade team played Friday 12/2 and won vs. St. Patrick 12-8. A great team win with only 5 players! The team played well with great energy and "for each other". SPN 8th grade Boys played the School of the Madeleine on 12/3. We lost 37-20. Our players started the game feeling a bit nervous, but settled down enough to make the game respectable! Proud of them!

Congratulations to all of our athletes…Go Spartans!
