Dear SPN Families,
On behalf of the entire SPN staff, THANK YOU PARENTS! The efforts of the PTG, Room Parents, and parent volunteers resulted in a very special Staff Appreciation Day last Friday. Our wonderful faculty and staff enjoyed a “duty free brunch” provided by parent volunteers who supervised each class. When I checked on them during the brunch, the parent volunteers were enjoying cooperative, respectful students. What a beautiful tribute to our staff to have our parents provide classroom supervision and our students to be on their best behavior. We are very grateful for our wonderful parents and students.
We all agree that physical safety is a top priority here at SPN. Our campus safety begins with driving and parking carefully at drop off and pick up. With additional supervision provided by staff members, our morning and afternoon traffic safety has improved, but more is needed. Specifically, on Van Buren St. for TK/K drop off, we are beginning a new procedure for safer mornings. It is important for all of our community to know about this change in procedures.
Van Buren Ave. Drop Off Procedures
-
Beginning at 7:50 a.m., Van Buren St. will only be accessible one way from High St. You will not be able to enter Van Buren St. from Fountain St.
-
Pull up to the curb on the right side of Van Buren (i.e. “drop off lane”) to drop off students safely at the Kindergarten Gate curb. THIS SHOULD BE QUICK– DRIVERS, PLEASE STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE. A staff member will be there to assist students out of their cars.
- To exit Van Buren, turn right only at Fountain St. Mr. Croft will be directing traffic.
TK/K NOTE: It is always advisable to get to school a few minutes early to avoid the “rush,” and/or park your car to walk your students to the Gate. Tardy students (who arrive after the Kindergarten Gate closes at 8:00 a.m.) will still need parents to check them in at the School Office on High St.
1-8 NOTE: Please remember that NO STUDENTS should enter school by the front door at 1335 High St. unless they are TARDY. This is a safety precaution because there is no drop off on High St. Students will be directed to enter the playground by Jackson St. if they attempt to enter at High St.
Traffic safety is the first priority for a safe school campus. Jaywalking is terribly unsafe, especially during drop off/pick up. PLEASE DO NOT JAYWALK. Begin your days with more calm and peace by allowing enough time to drop off students safely at both buildings on our campus. Thank you all in advance for your cooperation in keeping all of our students safe.
Warmly,
Ms. Thomas
