Milestones
Dear SPN Families and Friends,
This is the season of milestone events for our students. Last Saturday the First Communicants in Second Grade enjoyed a special retreat for receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on May 4. They have prepared for this ceremony and for becoming more active participants in the Mass by receiving the body of Christ. We are so proud of them and congratulate them on this milestone. Additionally, the First Communicants are hosting the Family Mass on Sunday, May 5 at 9:00 a.m. when they will be presented to the parish.
Another milestone will be Graduation for our Class of 2024 on May 31. Their teachers, Ms. Taylor and Mr. Toner and I, have taken them off campus today for their Graduation Retreat. This retreat gives them an opportunity to Reflect on the Past, Appreciate the Present, and Prepare for the Future. We have #4 St. Joseph Notre Dame High School students facilitate the retreat activities with the teachers. This event is a wonderful way for our 8th graders to have some time to reflect on this transition in their lives, with their peers, and truly prepare for their final month at St. Philip Neri Catholic School before they move onto high school. Again, we are so proud of our soon to be graduates and wish them all the best as they prepare for graduation.
While these milestones are especially significant, each and every one of our students will experience a milestone in that they will have completed one academic year of growth and development as they conclude the 2023-24 school year. For this reason we have several opportunities to celebrate and congratulate our students on their accomplishments.
Please note the following calendar changes so you don’t miss out on any of these events:
- Spring Concert, Wednesday, May 8, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
-
May Crowning Mass, Friday, May 10 at 8:30 a.m., hosted by 2nd and 8th grades
- Math Night, Monday, May 13 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Please read through this Newsletter for other important information you don’t want to miss.
Peace & Blessings,
Ms. Thomas

New Date for Spring Concert
Spring Concert Details from Mr. Q
Here is a message from Mr. Q., the Music teacher, about the Spring Concert:
I have a few items about the upcoming concert that I want to make sure you are aware of.
The concert is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8th. Students should arrive at their homerooms between 6:40 and 6:50 p.m. so we can have them ready for the performance. The doors to the church will open at 6:40 p.m. for seating.
The dress code for students for the concert is the same as in previous years, defined as "Nice Free Dress" in the student handbook. Basically, dressed up nicely as they would for attending church or in lieu of nicer clothes, the school uniform works as well. (The 5th grade class will be wearing green particularly, but no other classes have a special dress code.)
Students will not be released to go home until after the All-School song and the Spring Concert is complete. It will run for about one hour.
The theme of our concert this year is "A Celebration of Planet Earth."
Thank you and I hope to have a fun and joyful concert!
-Mr. Q.

7th Grade's Field Trip to the Food Bank
We are thrilled to announce that the Julia Robinson Math Festival (JRMF) will be hosting our annual Math Night on Monday, May 13th, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM!
To ensure the success of this event, we are reaching out to seek volunteers from our math club families to assist with various aspects of the festival for 2.5 hours on 5/13. No prior math background is necessary and middle school students can help too! An expert from JRMF will host an hour-long volunteer session to comprehensively review each math activity featured at the festival and equip you with all the tools necessary to engage our students effectively.
Please sign up to volunteer here!
Thank you very much,
Helen Wang
