Principal's Message

The Feast of St. Philip Neri

Patron Saint of Joy

Dear St. Philip Neri Family and Friends,

The Feast of our Patron Saint, St. Philip Neri, is acknowledged on May 26, the day in 1595 when he died. He was born in Florence, Italy, in 1515 to a noble family. In 1533, at the age of 18, he had a religious conversion which caused him to move to Rome and devote his life to God. He spent many years as a layman preaching in the streets of Rome, caring for the poor, the sick and the pilgrims who came to Rome for refuge. In 1544 he met Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits Order), and in 1551 Philip was ordained a priest. Philip Neri believed that a cheerful temper was more Christian than a melancholy one. "A joyful heart is more easily made perfect than a downcast one," according to Philip Neri, the Second Apostle of Rome.

As a school community named for St. Philip Neri, we continue to emulate his life of service to others and his advocacy for joy and cheer. We will honor St. Philip Neri with an all school Mass hosted by the 4th Grade, with our parish, at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24. We will begin with a procession from the blacktop. Please join us for this special Eucharistic celebration.

SPN Olympics - May 24

The SPN Olympics are back!

On May 24th at 10:45 a.m. we will have our very own Olympics.  Students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth have practiced and participated in our three events and are ready to take on all other grades in the spirited competition. The events are: Ring Toss, Cart Race and Relay Race.  All grades have practiced the events individually and competed to see who will represent each grade against the whole school!

All Grades will be out on the yard at once cheering on their representatives to see who the medal winners will be. Along with the three events each grade will have a winner for the sportsmanship award. Each Grade will have their own designated color to wear on the day of the Olympics.  Parents are welcome to come and enjoy but we ask that you stay outside the fence.
