Principal's Message
Lord make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon, Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope, Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy - Saint Francis Prayer -
Dear Families,

This month, as a school family, we are praying a decade of the Rosary each morning in honor of Mary. We invite your children to bring their rosaries to school this month to pray along with us. Please join us if you can.

8th Grade Caritas : Our 8th graders have returned from Caritas and explained their experience as life changing. Other words and phrases they used to describe their journey include: "power the peaceful, emotional, serendipity, everyone is worth getting to know, love." See some pictures from their adventure below (photo credit: Kyle Conner).
6th Grade Service Project: Thank you for a wonderful start to the 6th grade service project to help Saint Vincent de Paul. Our bins were overflowing with new towels! Let’s see how many times we can fill the bins.
Art at SPN: In September, our fabulous art teacher, Mrs. Romero, focused on the art of Edward Hopper. This month the focus is on Joan Miro.
Help Promote our TK/K Event: The number one way prospective families hear about us is word of mouth. Our enrollment committee will be visiting preschools during the month of October to promote our Come Play in TK and K event, as well as our information nights. Please reach out to anyone you think would be interested and invite them to attend. If you have a strong connection with a preschool and have time to help by dropping off our materials, please let me know. Also, we are looking for parent volunteers who can help distribute fliers around town. Please contact Amy Costa this week. See attached fliers - and Come Play in TK and K

V olunteers Needed for Hearing Screening: Three to four volunteers are needed for Hearing Testing on Friday October 19 from 8:30am to 11:00am, and two volunteers for Hearing Re-Testing on Friday October 26 from 8:30am to 10:00am. Please contact our school nurse directly via email - Reena Palacio, jazzyandjacob@gmail.com  to help. We will test all students in grades K, 2, 5, 8, all new students, and referrals from teachers or parents.
Progress Reports: Every student will receive a progress report on October 5th. Parents, please sign and return the progress report to your child's teacher. The PowerSchool Parent Portal for Middle school families will be available on October 5th. All 6th graders and new middle school students will be given instructions on how to access PowerSchool and how to print your student’s progress report. Please print the progress report and bring it with you to the Student/Parent/Teacher conferences. If you have PowerSchool questions, please contact Mrs. Keast .

Spartan Wear: The athletic board is now accepting orders for Spartan wear. Students are allowed to wear the Spartan sweatshirt on Fridays only. Download the order form here or a printed copy is also provided in today's family envelope.

Being Adept: Our middle school students will begin their Substance Abuse and Drug Prevention classes on October 19 through the organization Being Adept . The students will receive a survey via their school email in preparation for this class. The survey has to be completed by October 10. Click here for information on the lessons.

Parent Resource: Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 12’s new Screen Time is the feature parents have been waiting for. With it, we have a new tool to help prevent excessive screen time for our youth, as well as ourselves. The tool lets us limit overall time and allow you to limit the time on specific apps. It also does the same for websites and video games. This is a game changer because when these controls are built into the machine itself, it makes it nearly impossible for anyone to find ways around the restrictions on the devices.

Peace and blessings this week,

Jessica Murray

Sometimes my students (and my own children) tell me they are not good at something, like reading, talking to a group, or catching pop flies. “You’re not good at it yet,” is my response. “What steps could you take to improve?” Continue reading here....
Siblings and Screentime
Last night one of my good friends came over with his kids. We were visiting when he turned to my son and said, “Don’t take for granted your relationship with your sister.” I asked him where this heartfelt advice came from. He said something we were talking about reminded him of the time years ago he and his older brother had a falling out. “My brother told my parents something I didn’t want them to know,” he said. ”I remember my brother getting real joy seeing me get in trouble. We haven’t been close since then.” Read more here...
