We are excited for our upcoming Student Led Conferences the week of February 19-22!
If you have not already done so, please be sure to
sign up for your child's Student-Led Conference with his or her advisor
so that you can see your child present their learning to you! Conferences will be held
February 19-22
from 1:30-5pm; see information below on how to sign up.

Important Announcements
Student-Led Conferences are February 19-22-please sign up NOW!
Our
Student-Led Conferences are an important opportunity for each student to present their learning to their family.
Please be sure to sign up for your child's conference so that we can have 100% participation again this year. Each family can sign-up for a 20-30 minute time slot to meet with their child and his/her advisor.
You should have received an email or text via ParentSquare to sign up for the conference with your child's advisor.
Please call the office with any questions.
February 19 - February 22 -- Early dismissal at 1:00pm every day for Student-Led Conferences:
Please be sure to plan with your child for early dismissal, for students who are not attending the YMCA After School Program will need to be picked up or take the bus home at 1:00pm.

**This is a great event for 6th and 7th grade families starting to think about high school and for 8th grade families that still have questions about Gateway High school. All GMS families are welcome to attend!
Puberty Education Workshops --
Gateway has partnered again this year with Planned Parenthood to offer puberty education workshops for students. The workshops will be on the following dates:
6th and 8th Grades: February 25 through March 1, 2019. To learn about the curriculum, see the materials, and ask questions, please contact Mr. Angelo at kangelo@gatewaymiddle.org. We are sending a letter home explaining the curriculum.
We Need Sign-up Parties and Auction Items for the Great Gateway Gathering! We're looking for experiences,
sign-up parties
, and other donations for the fundraising portion of our event. If you have a fun donation idea, please email Cathy Yee, 12th grade parent and volunteer, at cathypy1@gmail.com. The Great Gateway Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 9 from 6:00 - 10:00 PM at the African American Arts & Culture Complex. Tickets are available here.

Student Opportunities
Summer Opportunity: The Outdoor Advanced Leadership Academy at the Point Bonita YMCA
The Outdoor Advanced Leadership Academy is a six-day summer residential camp for students entering 6th-10th grades at the Point Bonita YMCA. Campers will learn what it takes to become the leaders of the next generation of environmental activists. Campers stay in the historic dorms of the Point Bonita YMCA with residential camp counselors, have meals in the YMCA's dining hall, and participate in a variety of outdoor activities to get them out into nature and discussing the environment, conservation, and personal agency. Activities include kayaking, ropes course challenges, star gazing, bird watching, group research projects, and hikes. Generous financial aid is available and some campers qualify to attend camp at no charge. Applications are due by February 16. More information and application here.
Apply for The California Academy of Sciences Middle School Summer Program
Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC) Middle School is a youth volunteer opportunity to learn about science and the natural world, participate in civic engagement, and explore all the Academy has to offer. Youth will participate in off-site field studies, in which they will use scientific tools to explore local flora and fauna and participate in citizen science. Applications are due by April 1 for the summer program. More information and application HERE.

Las conferencias dirigidas por los estudiantes son del 19 al 22 de Febrero. ¡Las inscripciones ya comenzaron!
Nuestras
conferencias dirigidas por los estudiantes son una oportunidad importante para que cada estudiante presente su aprendizaje a su familia.
Asegúrese de inscribirse en la conferencia de su hijo para que podamos tener una participación al 100% nuevamente este año. Cada familia puede inscribirse en un espacio de tiempo de 20-30 minutos para reunirse con su hijo y su asesor.
Usted recibirá un correo electrónico o de texto a través ParentSquare para inscribirse en la conferencia con el consejero de su hijo.
Por favor llame a la oficina con cualquier pregunta.
Febrero 19-22- Salida temprana a la 1:00 pm todos los días para conferencias estudiantiles:

Aplique para el Programa de Verano de la escuela secundaria de la Academia de Ciencias de California
La Escuela Intermedia Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC) es una oportunidad de voluntariado juvenil para aprender sobre la ciencia y el mundo natural, participar en el compromiso cívico y explorar todo lo que la Academia tiene para ofrecer. Los jóvenes participarán en estudios de campo fuera del sitio, en los que utilizarán herramientas científicas para explorar la flora y fauna locales y participar en la ciencia ciudadana. Las solicitudes deben presentarse antes del 1 de Abril para el programa de verano. Más información y aplicación
