Director's Report

Our first competition is almost here and The Marching Dons are ready. If you are a new family to the band, the season takes on a different momentum from here on out. Enjoy-it goes quickly! We hope you can come and help volunteer with the band and attend the competitions as part of the Sea of Purple. No one will clap for our band louder than our own parents so having a huge turnout in the stands helps the kids to feel supported but also energized. Hope to see you there!

Thank you also for all of the donations that are coming in for the added hotel stay on our Southern California trip.

So excited for all the memories we are going to make together!

Thanks for your support,

Mr. Grantham & Mr. Fell

We are HALFWAY in covering hotel lodgings for our marching band!

Donations for Hotel Stay for SoCal/Band of America Trip, Nov 1 - Nov 3

We are HALFWAY in covering hotel lodgings for our marching band! Again, because we could not get gym lodging from a local high school, the marching band and color guard will need to stay at a hotel - an extra expense that was not part of the budget. We are asking each family to please donate $100 to cover lodging for each student.

Here is a PayPal link where you can easily make your donation. If you prefer to donate by check please write the check out to "AFM" and note "Marching Band and Color Guard" in the memo line. Checks can be dropped off in the mail box in the Band Room or mailed to AFM, PO Box 602, Pleasanton, CA 94566.

We would appreciate donations by Friday October 18 so that funds can be processed in time for this November 1st trip.

We NEED RW Volunteers!

Thank you for all the volunteers who have already signed up, the first competition is filled up. The second competition has more details now and you can sign up with the links below:
Sat Oct 26, Comp 2, Foothill High, Pleasanton (you get free admission)
We are very short, 6 out of 20, on Road Warriors volunteers for the overnight trips:
Nov 1-3, Comp 3, Rancho Cucamonga
Nov 23-24, Comp 5 (1-night WBA State) Clovis, CA
If you can't help at the competition, you can still help at the home base when we load the trucks, and especially when we come back and unload the trucks around 11 pm or midnight. Please download the "Remind" app on your phone and join the classroom using this link: https://www.remind.com/join/avrw24
We will provide real time update on when the trucks and buses will arrive at Amador. You can come help the students unload so that they can all go home earlier after a long, hard day at the competition!

Some Note for The Families During the Competition Season:

This Saturday, Oct. 19, is our first band competition of the season. We are so lucky that this first competition is close by, making it easy to attend to cheer on our students.

Here is some info and reminders to help your student(s) day run smoothly:

1. Students have practice in the morning at Amador with attendance block at 8:54am and rehearsal beginning at 9:00am - please remind your student marching shoes are mandatory at this practice.

2. Students will be dismissed about 12:45, except the ones who are helping with loading the trucks. We strongly encourage students to go home so they can rest and fuel up for the long night ahead.

3. Students are to report back to school at 3:45 wearing their travel uniform and carrying their garment bag with the rest of their uniform.

4. Students will be eating dinner on the bus: think non-messy as you help them pack a dinner. Some examples are salads, cold pasta, sandwiches, wraps, burritos, fruit, etc. Please do not pack glass containers (for obvious reasons) or Boba (tends to come back up). Don't forget water!

5. When they arrive at the competition they will immediately change into their full uniform and will be preparing for their performance which will begin at 7:50pm

6. After their performance they stay for awards and lastly change clothes and have a provided snack before returning back to Amador.

7. Buses will return to Amador late - currently scheduled for 10:15pm. They will pull up to the curb so please park in the parking spaces and NOT the curb for pick up.

Here is some info and reminders to help your day run smoothly:

1. We strongly encourage all families to try to attend and cheer our marching band on! If you are able to volunteer, RA's and RW's are still in need of volunteers. If you are unable to, that's OK...come out to watch and cheer! It means a lot to our students to see a great big "Sea of Purple "when they look into the stands!

2. Amador is scheduled to perform at 7:50pm, but the performances in our level begin at 6:35pm. It is fun to come out early and enjoy all of the shows, but if you can't we recommend arriving at least 3 performances ahead of ours (roughly 7:00pm). Here is link to the WBA event link: https://westernbands.org/events/details.php?ID=1055

3. Wear your purple!!! Be mindful, though, that competitions are COLD - sweatshirts, beanies, gloves, scarves, coats, and even blankets are all helpful. If you have stadium seats, your bum will thank you as most bleachers are metal and COLD.

4. Keep in mind that you do need to pay an admittance fee, usually $5-10.

If you have any questions, please email Lori at newmemberliaison@amadormusic.org

Looking forward to seeing all of you Saturday decked out in PURPLE!
