CANDLEMAS PROCESSION FEBRUARY 2
Candlemas is another name for the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord. It is based on Luke's account of Jesus being presented in the Temple by Mary and Joseph (Luke 2:22-40) 40 days after his birth, following the Jewish practice of Jesus' day. Some Christians keep their nativity scenes and/or other Christmas decorations up until this day, recognizing the Presentation as the last feast of the Christmas cycle of the church year. Another practice is to bring candles from home to the church to be blessed and then used throughout the year, serving as symbols of Christ, the Light of the World; hence the name "Candle Mass."
We will begin our services on February 2 with a Candlemas Procession. The service will begin outdoors (weather permitting) on the lawn in front of the church with a Candlemas liturgy, where candles will be lit and blessed. We will process our lit candles into the church and will extinguish them after the opening prayer inside. You are invited to bring candles from home you would like to have blessed during this service. We will have hand-held candles, including electric tealights for young children, for those who do not bring candles from home.

MISSION IN ACTION / OUTREACH
In the year 2025, we are going to continue our support of Hill Country Community Ministries as they provide help to our neighbors who are food insecure. In the narthex, you will see a large blue barrel. Every month we will collect shelf stable foods for HCCM to distribute to clients in need. In January, we will be collecting peanut butter and jelly. As you do your grocery shopping, please add a jar of peanut butter or jelly or both and bring it to church on Sunday morning. Place it in the blue barrel and we will make sure it gets delivered to HCCM.
Thanks for your continuing support in feeding our neighbors.

SENIOR SHEPHERDS VALENTINES DAY PROJECT
The Senior Shepherds will again be collecting Valentines made by our CEC Parents and Grandparents with their children to give to residents in local Nursing homes on Valentines Day. We have done this for the past several years and found this is both a fun project with our children and for those of us who are still children at heart, and that they are happily welcomed at the local nursing homes. The Valentines need to be placed in individual unsealed envelopes and have messages such as "Happy Valentines Day from your Friends at Christ Episcopal Church and our Children". Please let us know if you can do 5, 10 or 20 valentines. We will collect these at church on Sunday February 9th. For more information please contact bettyprince25@gmail.com.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER PARTNER MINISTRY
Intercessors will be at the back of the church in the narthex to pray with anyone who would like special prayers during communion on Sundays. Often people will ask for prayers for healing for themselves or others, but any prayer request is welcomed. If you would like to pray with one of our prayer partners, you are encouraged to come forward for communion and then make your way to the narthex for additional prayers. If you have any questions about this ministry or are interested in becoming a prayer partner to pray with others, please contact Cindy Gravis or Fr. Richard.
